Dave Wilson chuckles as he talks about his unorthodox political campaign.
"I'd always said it was a long shot," Wilson says. "No, I didn't expect to win."
Still, he figured he'd have fun running, because he was fed up with what he called "all the shenanigans" at the Houston Community College System. As a conservative white Republican running in a district whose voters are overwhelmingly black Democrats, the odds seemed overwhelmingly against him.
Then he came up with an idea, an advertising strategy that his opponent found "disgusting." If a white guy didn't have a chance in a mostly African-American district, Wilson would lead voters to think he's black.
And it apparently worked. In one of the biggest political upsets in Houston politics this election season, Wilson -- an anti-gay activist and former fringe candidate for mayor -- emerged as the surprise winner over 24-year incumbent Bruce Austin. His razor thin margin of victory, only 26 votes, was almost certainly influenced by his racially tinged campaign.
"Every time a politician talks, he's out there deceiving voters," he says.
Wilson, a gleeful political troublemaker, printed direct mail pieces strongly implying that he's black. His fliers were decorated with photographs of smiling African-American faces -- which he readily admits he just lifted off websites -- and captioned with the words "Please vote for our friend and neighbor Dave Wilson."
One of his mailers said he was "Endorsed by Ron Wilson," which longtime Houston voters might easily interpret as a statement of support from a former state representative of the same name who's also African-American. Fine print beneath the headline says "Ron Wilson and Dave Wilson are cousins," a reference to one of Wilson's relatives living in Iowa.
"He's a nice cousin," Wilson says, suppressing a laugh. "We played baseball in high school...

seems he is not a good journalist... just how many big political upsets have happened in Houston this season?
“A lawyer, social activist and former state representative, Yolanda Navarro Flores carefully cultivates connections between HCC and District I stakeholders with the belief that a shared vision is the key to both student success and community building. (District I)”
Sounds like Texas better be careful here. With that background could be a future Obamine in the making.
He ran for mayor a couple of years ago.
Video of news story.

Low information voters voting on race, this is funny and explains how Obama won election.
“Jeff Johnson - The name you know”
These things have happened before. In Chicago, back in the late 70s, two Lyndon LaRouche followers won seats over the Democrat machine’s hand-picked candidates. I think the fact that their names were “Hart” and “Goodfriend” attracted enough idiot liberals who didn’t do their homework.
But my favorite such story came from Houston in the 1990s when the Harris County Democrat Party Chairmanship was won by a Hispanic-surnamed woman who used to be an Anglo-surnamed man with a long criminal record. Rather than embrace him/her as someone who touched most of the demographics of the typical Rat voter, the Democrats met hurriedly and stripped the chairperson of any authority in the party and then ran business as usual. The homosexual transvestite became an AIDS activist for many years until his/her death from the disease.
Didn't Harry Reid or one of the other demonrats act surprised that he could speak so well? Like he wasn't really that black at all?
And before he ran for president he got a nose job to make his nose appear less black.
It is as if he needs to appear to be black just enough to fool enough people to get elected.
“(and not sounding like conspiracy theory nuts; just list the events that are occurring now that people considered crazy 5 years ago)”
I could not agree with you more, but the RINO’s simply will not allow this to happen. Anyone trying it will be discreded by both dems and RINO’s.
A huge, huge chance to educate the public was when McCain was running against obama. Much of obama’s past and lack of qualifications were known then. McCain said NOTHING!. He should have ran adds pointing all this out, even if he had still lost we could say “we told you so” and Myth would have stood a better chance. The RINO’s never learned from McCain and Mitt shut up too.
Now anyone trying to educate the public on obama today would write it off as a conspiracy theory because many people simply have never heard any of this before.
“Much of obamas past and lack of qualifications were known then.” Um, no, not even. The fabricated identity is what was ‘known’, not the actual identity and origins. Democrips/globalists use smoke and mirrors so well you don’t even realize you’re being deceived at the deepest level.
Olivia Pope (TV Scandel) couldn’t have done better.
Idiocracy is a downright scary movie.
How did “we” get into this mess “this” way?
Laughing all the way to the polls.
Nope! You would not believe the racist hate between orientals.
To the round eyes, they look the same but to a Korean, Chinese, Japanese or any other the venom is not something that you would recognize.
I've seen it, but other than the fact that they have been fighting for thousands of years, I can't explain it.
The culture is so different, that even if you have lived there, you just shake your head and wonder.
Obama’s past associations were known in 2008, but McCain wanted to run an “honorable” campaign. No mention of Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayers, to name a few.
ROTFLMAO!
I see you have swallowed the offered fabrications. A little truth sprinkled onto the raft of lies which fabricate this little barry bastard Canadian boy-king’s life story appears to have satisfied your taste buds. But don’t feel too bad, you’re one of hundreds of millions drinking the same filthy poison.
What’s amazing is the unspoken assumptions made by the writer of the piece. It is assumed that black voters won’t vote for a white candidate and that’s a completely natural and noble thing free of any racial component but reverse the races and if a white doesn’t support a black for ANY reason then they are racist. The paradigm has been established; ONLY WHITES CAN BE RACISTS. The populace in general is expected to operate under this rule.
All true!!
