Forget the Redskins, there’s a high school...mascot that’s at least as offensive [Sitzpinkler alert]

Much has been made of the Washington Redskins, with a national campaign dedicated to getting the NFL franchise to change the nickname and the team itself supporting high schools that share the name.
Yet, as offensive as the Redskins name may be, there's a prep mascot in California that is just as offensive, if not even more so.
The sports teams at Coachella Valley High School (Thermal, Calif.) compete as the Arabs. If that seems culturally offensive to you, that's because it is. The school's mascot is a cartoonish caricature of the most offensive traits prescribed to people from the Middle East. In essence, it's a more offensive version of what the Cleveland Indians' Chief Wahoo is to Native Americans.
To make matters even more insensitive, the school has a female student dressed as a belly dancer perform for the Arab mascot at halftime.

If Mr Smith finds the current team name offensive, I have a few suggestions:
The Coachella Valley Suicide Bombers
The Coachella Valley Female Genital Mutilators
The Coachella Valley Church Burners
The Coachella Valley Jew Killers
Best of all, they wouldn't have to change the mascot!
[Pix at source, but the girly-man editor didn't include the belly dancer.]

I graduated from Compton High in Los Angeles County, CA. In my day, the school was 99% black. Our mascot (of which we were quite proud) was the Tarbabe.

As far as I know, the Tarbabe is still the school mascot.

If you really try, you can find something offensive in just about any mascot.
Some people can find offense in just about anything anyone says.

We have certain inalienable rights as Americans. These are noted and protected by the Bill Of Rights. (Not granted, protected) Howerver, there is no provision to protect anyone from not being offended. That would quite literally be impossible. No matter what you do, including trying to protect someone or some group, it will offend someone else. So everyone needs to suck it up, put on their big boy (or big girl) pants and let these petty issues go. Sheesh.

I don’t think that people in that district have enough children to support a high school.

One of the prettiest girls I have ever seen was from Arab. I think that is the only reason I recognized the name of that town.
She sort of looked like an artist’s rendition of what a beautiful girl should look like.

My old college, Troy University got an award from some organization or magazine, for having the most unimaginative mascot.
The Trojans. I like it anyway.
