"....Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal's office will cancel food stamp benefits for anyone who participated in a fraud and shopping spree catalyzed by an EBT malfunction....More than 12,000 people were sent an insufficient funds notice when the problem with the EBT cards was fixed on Oct. 12; those who transgressed may lose their EBT cards for a year....On October 11-12, at least 17 states experienced problems with their EBT card systems. In Springhill and Mansfield, Louisiana, cards indicated they had no spending limits, so EBT holders went wild with purchases..... The stores that were cheated are bound to come up with the cash they lost, which may prompt them to join local prosecutors to bring charges against the fraudsters.... The Advocate reported that violators will receive a letter stating their EBT cards have been canceled along with information as to how to appeal their cases. They may lose their EBT cards forever......

There has to be more to this story. This only happened in two places and they’re both in Louisiana?

I'm pretty sure these programs are run at the state level. This incident was a Lousiana problem, not a nationwide problem. Also standard procedure in these cases are for the retailer to limit purchases to $50. Walmart chose not to do that so they are on the hook for the loss. I seriously doubt they will join the state in seeking to recover losses since EBT purchases are probably a significant portion of their business

All food stamps are run at the state level. Then the state hands it down to the county welfare departments.

The Feds may not take it over, but I bet they won’t let Jindal do this, somehow or another.

I believe that there were more states than just Louisiana that had EBT problems. Even if it was just Louisiana, why only two places where this happened? Why didn’t this happen everywhere in Louisiana? Somebody worked the system.

These 2 Walmarts were the only ones that let people buy unlimited amounts of groceries during the glitch period. All the other stores either didn't allow any purchases at all or set a $50 limit, which is what the other 2 stores were supposed to do.

The courts will not allow this! Obama will jump in and replace any cut EBT funds.

We’ll pay twice for their greedy binge.

Awesome. I never thought they'd do a damned thing about it. And I'll be the fraudsters thought the same thing! My first comment when I first saw the threads about it was that they exactly who participated in this. I'm astounded.
