BCS Landscape Changes with Stanford Win over Oregon, Baylor over Oklahoma
bleacher report ^ | November 8, 2013 | Samuel Chi

Posted on 11/08/2013 4:57:53 AM PST by C19fan

For the third time in five years, Stanford stunned an Oregon team with legitimate national championship aspirations. For the second consecutive year, the Cardinal might have knocked the Ducks out of a Rose Bowl berth as well. And as a result, the Pac-12 won't be playing for the national championship for the seventh time in the BCS's final eight years.

Stanford's upset victory, coupled with Baylor's pasting of Oklahoma in a pair of Thursday night Top 10 showdowns, sent a shockwave through the top of the BCS even before the weekend. (They might have to cancel classes in Tallahassee and Columbus on Friday.)

This much is clear: Alabama and Florida State, atop the Week 11 BCS standings, will control their respective destinies. If either team wins out, it'll be playing in Pasadena on Jan. 6. Then, after that, it gets a bit messy.

It looks like 'Bama has the toughest schedule with LSU Saturday night, @ Auburn, and the SEC Championship game projected to be Mizzou. FSU @ Florida whose season is imploding, and ACC Championship which should be a re-match against THE U. THE Ohio State University @ Michigan, and Big 10 = 12 Championship game projected to be Sparty.

I’ll post to this thread when I get this bag off my head and maybe I can see better.

Which is why Stanford losing to an UNRANKED and pathetic Utah team will not rise higher than an undefeated Ohio State. Right now it is AL & FSU in the Championship unless one or both stumble down the stretch.

Notre Dame isn’t good enough to hate anymore so this year I have Baylor. No excuses, but Stoops isn’t up to the job anymore (if he ever was) but there was a lot of home cookin’ going on.

Just curious, but who came up with the silly THE names for universities? There is nothing special or notable about any who have this appellation applied.

Ohio State should have copyrighted the THE. They still have the Best Damn Band In The Land though.

I don’t undrstand Bama’s no. 1 ranking other than the sportswriters’ bias in favor of the SEC. Bama has played only two ranked teams — only oneof which was top ten — including an overrated Texas A&M that it barely beat. Sure, Stanford lost to a mediocre Utah, but it has also beaten five ranked teams including a no. 9 and and no. 3. Ohio has only played two ranked teams, none of which were top ten, and up until last night, Baylor has had a patsy schedule. As of this morning, I rank the top five as:

FSU
Alabama
Stanford
Ohio
Oregon

THE Ohio State band - that is something I could see.

It seemed to me that the Ducks beat themselves. They had a dropped pass, an overthrown pass, and a critical goal line fumble. At least two of these things could have been scores if the plays were completed. The player who said they would put up 40 points against Stanford evidently “misspoke.”

If we get Florida State versus Alabama in the final BCS Championship Game, at least it will be two college football powers that have enjoyed considerable success in the last 30 years.

Yeah. When somebody does, please share it with me. I couoldn’t believe what I was seeing.

I’m a Bama fan, and always thought Oregon was a little over-rated. But only a little. This blew me away.

I read the article, and the comments.

I have one question: Why does everyone keep assuming that Bama is going to drop one. My prediction is that it doesn’t happen.

I could be wrong. “There’s never a bronco that couldn’t be rode, and never a cowboy that couldn’t be throwed”.

It just seems very unlikely.

Roll Tide, Roll.

And a merry “rammer jammer” to you
