In a nation obsessed with the right now, few things have held up over the past 50 years as well as the Ford Mustang. The first pony car debuted at the 1964 New York Worlds Fair and instantly became a tent pole of Americana. Before the model officially turns 50 on April 17, 2014, Ford will celebrate its lasting contribution to the postwar-boom culture with a brand-new, much anticipated Mustang.
But the times, they are a changin (yep, a song also released in 1964). Fords American icon continues to gain offshore admirers. The Blue Oval plans to sell the next Mustang globally, and to appease overseas buyers, the car will need to be lighter and more efficient. But thats not to say that traditional fans will be disappointed.

That side view riminds me a bit of my Scion FRS. But I’ll take my Scion any day of the week over a ‘Stang. But that is because, for me, smaller and lighter is better. I like driving a comfortable go-cart every day on my 122 mile round trip commute on twisties through cornfields and cattle pastures.
Funny, my 15 year-old daughter agrees. Yesterday we pulled up beside an old car and she asked me to put the window down so she could listen to the V-8.
hahaha!
Look at my post above this one. :-)
Personally, I think it is gorgeous. And there is nothing wrong with the similarity to the other Fords. I used to own a 1972 Vega GT. Loved to drive it but it was a piece of crap. However, even back then I understood the Chevrolet “branding” going on. Look at the headlights and grill of any Chevrolet product from that year. They are intentionally similar. And they are doing it today with the horizontally split grille. Kia does it too with their grill these days.
I would expect every ford to look like it was a Ford product, even without the blue oval.
This new mustang is lovely. I really do like how they threw off the retro shackles without losing the Mustang look.
Of course, opinions do vary. ;-)
Looks like it has a stuffy nose and a hangover.
That’s a Subaru?? Nice. But where are all the liberal stickers plastered all over it preaching to the world about the planet and coexisting?
Front grill reminds me of a KIA.
Leaks of intellectual property before their time are taken very seriously within certain Corporate Cultures........
Now be nice.
Many of those Subies are manufactured here in RTW Indiana in a non union plant.
I always find it bizarre that the class struggle folks largely avoid their UAW partners when it comes to vehicle selection....
I’m with you. I bought my Scion FR-S because it has some retro qualities (I love the dash), but it also totally new. The profile with the relatively long hood and the shape and location of the cabin and fastback harken back to sixties Ferrari’s and Lola’s and LeMans style cars.
But my stereo plays via bluetooth from my phone or a thumb drive plugged directly into the dash.
And the view over the hood is also reminiscent of my 1971 Opel GT that I had to sell for a down payment on a house in the late 70’s.
I really like the looks of the mustangs, but I need somehting I can really throw around
I think so too. That seems like one stressed-out motor to me.
From that view, it looks an awful lot like a Scibaru BRZ/FR-S. Nothing really wrong with that, per se, but it sure as heck doesn’t look much like a Mustang.
It sadly looks like one of the Japanese or Korean products on the market now. I’d tell you which ones, but they all look alike to me. And I don’t like them.
I’ve owned two Mustangs (and a bunch of other Fords) so call me a fan of the make and model. I do hope this thing ultimately proves an upgrage over the current model.
Myself, I rather like the sound of a high-winding four-banger with hot cams. Of course some of that will invariably be lost as it spins up the turbocharger...
“Making it a Ford Musion?”
Naw, it’s a Fustang!
You’re not the only one.
The V6 in the current base Mustang is good for somewhere around 300hp. It’s more than the GT had ten years ago.
You need one of these.
The VTEC kicks in at 6K and you have over 2K left to redline. It screams.
