I went to a Giants’ game this summer and they did NOT sing God Bless America. I figured it was a San Fran thing.

To my knowledge, baseball only does the God Bless America rendetion on Sunday games during the 7th inning stretch. Its something they began after 9-11.

The liberals in Congress sure got out to sing God Bless America following 9.11.

It started more of a superstition than a prayer.

“When the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team played Smith’s rendition of “God Bless America” before their game on December 11, 1969, an unusual part of her career began. The team began to play the song before home games every once in a while; the perception was that the team was more successful on these occasions, so the tradition grew.”

The numskull Yankee fans treat it like the national anthem.

Well, I certainly wouldn’t want to offend their religious sensibilities. I propose a compromise: we sing Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue”. I mean, that’s secular, isn’t it?

I'm glad for the change to God Bless America in Boston.

I simply can't stand "Sweet Caroline" being sung to glorify a pedophile's sick obsession with a president's daughter. Plus the song sux.

I thought the song was the Star Spangled Banner. ??

That is before the game. God Bless America is being sung during the 7th inning stretch.

The young soldier that sang it last night was OUTSTANDING.
She was from Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

I talk to the trees
But they don’t listen to me
I talk to the stars
But they never hear me

The breeze hasn’t time
To stop and hear what I say
I talk to them all in vain

But suddenly my words
Reach someone else’s ear
At someone else’s heart strings too

I tell you my dreams
And while you’re listening to me
I suddenly see them come true

I can see us some April night
Looking out across a rollin’ farm
Having supper in the candlelight
Walking later, arm in arm

Then I’ll tell you how I pass the day
Thinking mainly how the night would be
Then I’ll try to find the words to say
All the things you mean to me

I tell you my dreams
And while you’re listening to me
I suddenly see them come true.

;^)

It’s become a tradition to sing God Bless America in honor of our troops during the 7th inning stretch.

Your example is exclusive to the Philadelphia Flyers. Singing 'God Bless America' during the 7th inning stretch is done to honor and support our troops. It's generally sung while images of homecomings and our troops overseas are displayed on the jumbotron.

“I don’t believe in God but I believe in Obamacare”.

A socialist utopia would be a real "heaven" on Earth. Or something like that.

We used to sing "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" at Wrigley Field during the seventh inning stretch.

I don't think that crowd was any less patriotic than any crowd of today.

Sometimes they do the National Anthem. Either way, it takes about five minutes at the 7th inning, and Democrats still find an excuse to gripe.

They DON’T sing God Bless America at every game. They sing The National Anthem.

Reminds me of an episode of the old Mr. Belvedere TV series where Bob Uecker’s character is a TV sportscaster who is told to make his editorial comments “more controversial”.

So the topic of his next one becomes “The National Anthem: Who Needs It?”

The DU commenter can take his suitcase and lack of love for America and go away. Why be miserable, pack your crap and go. Persons like him/her will not fight for this country and all that we should be proud of here, and are therefore not needed. Much like a family member who is hateful to the family - go away.

I’m glad that when we gather for a ballgame that we stop to remember our freedoms and how they were earned. We should be proud to be an American.

I’m also glad that at the 7th inning stretch at the Ballpark in Arlington we stand and sing “Deep in the Heart of Texas”, but no one has to be reminded why they should be proud to be a Texan!
