Marcia Wallace -- who voiced Edna Krabappel on "The Simpsons" -- died last night in Los Angeles ... TMZ has learned.
Marcia's caregiver tells us ... the actress passed away at home with her family by her side. We're told she had been sick for the past few months ... but the caregiver couldn't go into specifics.
Wallace has been on TV since the 70's -- and spent 3 decades on various game show panels like "Hollywood Squares", "The $25,000 Pyramid" and "Match Game" ... as well as receptionist Carol Kester on "The Bob Newhart Show."

‘Simpsons’ showrunner Al Jean to retire Marcia Wallace’s character, Edna Krabappel
But she married Ned.
I always wondered if the name Krabappel was a reference to the teacher in “Our Gang” comedies - Miss Crabtree.
RIP.
Same here. I really don’t watch the Simpsons and didn’t realize she was part of the cast. RIP.
Enjoyed her work. RIP.
Oh shite, Mrs. Krabappel/Carol is dead? RIP. Pneumonia?
I haven’t normally watched new eps of The Simpsons for several years but I guess Ned Flanders is losing another wife. Poor gleep. Maybe Bart will finally make it to the next grade like the kids on South park did.
Another source said she had breast cancer.
According to that:
“Contrary to earlier reports that she died of complications from breast cancer, her son, Michael Hawley, told the Times Saturday afternoon that she had been in failing health for the last several months and died due to complications of pneumonia. Wallace, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 1985, was an advocate for breast cancer awareness.”
