Olivier De Schutter, the UN special rapporteur on the right to food, has told the UN general assembly to press governments to make the once forgotten right legally binding worldwide.
In his report, based on eleven country missions in different regions globally, De Schutter detailed progress made on the right to food over the past decade.
Treating food as a human right brings coherence and accountability. It helps to close the gaps by putting food security of all citizens at the top of the decision-making hierarchy, and making these decision-making processes participatory and accountable, he said.

This person apparently doesn’t know the different between a right and an entitlement.
i’m down with it. and my food right is whatever Michael Bloomberg eats every night. he can even send his personal chef over to cook for me. yeah, that’s the ticket.
Pay for it and you can have all you want don’t and you can lie down and croak.
“....press governments to make the once forgotten right legally binding worldwide.”
.
Olivier De Schutter must be some Dutchman high on Mary Jane.
I forgot, he ‘works’ for the UN.
Actually it does exactly the opposite. It removes the individual accountability of each person for his own daily sustenance and in doing so it makes the individual totally dependant on the state for his continued existence. Any person that is dependant on the state for his daily bread is a slave to the state; that person no longer has any right to or power to decide his own fate.
It helps to close the gaps by putting food security of all citizens at the top of the decision-making hierarchy, and making these decision-making processes participatory and accountable, he said.
Making food a basic right will return civilization and government back to the days of Pharaohs Egypt where the potentate collected all of the produce of the farms and distributed the food stuff to the citizens. Do we really wish to return to the day when the state had total power over the citizen?
The UN should never have come to be. It was a bad copy of Wilson’s failed League of Nations, which was one of the reasons for WWII happening. Now what kind of war is on the horizon thanks to the UN?
How about a legally binding right to self defense? To include a legally binding right to own firearms.
I’m okay feeding the world’s poor, but they have to submit themselves and their spawn to sterilization first.
Why should you have the right to defend yourself?
The UN will do it for you when the need arises.
Unfortunately, “feeding the world’s poor” really has meant “filling the coffers and storehouses of big-man dictators” for many decades.
ObamaMenu is now the Law of The Land!
At the moment (due to those wascally wepuplicans) the ObamaMen website is experiencing minor problems.
Please return to this site in May....2015 to order your porridge ...er Supper.
Better idea: sterilize the Third World.
Do a Sanger on the Third World?
The “big man” dictators in the Third World have been working overtime trying to turn the place into an echo of the Second World (communist sphere). Part of that is the destruction of the family. And of course, we have stood idly by and let this happen, instead of helping them become more First World-like; the liberals here and elsewhere threw around the “white guilt” trip to help the Second World.
IOW, the UN’s job is to rid the world of dictatorships and fascistic oligarchies. Uh-oh, trouble for the UN...
