'World's worst airline' launches world's worst booking site
CNN ^ | 26 October, 2012

North Korea's national carrier Air Koryo, which has the lowest airline rating on Skytrax, has discovered the Internet.

The state-owned company -- regarded by some as the "world's worst airline" -- recently launched a bilingual website (www.airkoryo.com.kp) to provide travelers with "easier, quicker, reliable booking and ticketing services," according to Air Koryo. Air Koryo's new ticket booking system reinforces the company's less-than-brilliant reputation.

After multiple trials to book a one-way ticket from Shengyang to Pyongyang, we failed to secure any reservation. Instead, we ended up with this message day after day: “We cannot find any flights for your flight schedule. Please change your schedule and try again.”

I was reading a blog about someone who did that reserved thing, where they can take a seat if someone was a no-show and they got a trip to South Korea for something like a hundred bucks. Crazy. The description of the flight to Korea sounded like something from the golden age of first class travel. No bagged peanuts either.

For those interested, here’s a break down (no pun intended) of the Air Koryo fleet:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Koryo#Fleet

Looks like almost half their fleet is the An-24 “Coke”. Pretty decent military transport for it’s time, IIRC (built in the 1950s), but I’m thinking not exactly a particular enjoyable plane for commercial passenger transport in 2013.

It’s spent the last 45 years in Wonson Harbor, I think. I’m guessing that it hasn’t had much maint in that time.

If only all Democraps could visit.

I went to Poland just after the wall fell, and this is how the ENTIRE country looked. It looked like everything had been abandoned in 1945. There wasn't a lawn in the ENTIRE country.

There was no color ANYWHERE. EVERYTHING was gray. I was desperate to see a brightly colored sign or poster.

Below is Warsaw today. The image in the foreground is the old Palace of Culture and Science, a "gift" from Stalin. It was the only "skyscraper," circa 1990.
