This public bashing needs to stop.
Yesterday, I saw on television Ayotte still going at it talking about how this shutdown doesn't need to happen again. Maybe so, but enough of McCain, Graham, Ayotte, Corker, Peter King, etc, airing things out in public.
Cruz, last night talked in part abvout McCain dive-bombing House Republicans, how this disunified Republicans, and how non-unity in the House/Senate torpedoed any chance of delaying or altering parts of ObamaCare - and Hannity brought up other individuals.
But enough is enough.
If they have a problem with someone or something take it to them in private - but don't air it out in public ad nauseum.
They can get their invites to all of the DC/NYC/Martha's Vineyard special events, or notoreity, kicks, thrills - whatever - some other way, but not at the expense of the GOP and the Tea Party in public forums.
Sadly, I fear you are right.
When is McCain’s term up? I thought he refrained from running for the Senate in 2008.
You make excellent points. Let me offer some thoughts. I agree that dividing the citizenry helps limit the power of the general population. That has worked well for many, many years here in the US.
You make clear that it is a systematic problem and encourage support for those who champion limited government. I contend this cannot achieve strong political support although it can achieve wide popularity. The reason can be illustrated by imagining a politician in his office, considering the next election. He MUST raise sufficient dollars to fund the campaign. To get big donations, he has to support something that supports the donor. He also sees a steady stream of constituents who want something (few if any constituents visit their representative’s office and ask for him to do less and not give them money). His colleagues, many of whom control what he can get done as a legislator and what committees he can serve on, want his vote so they can give out goodies to their similarly-demanding constituents. There is no future in saying no. The only way that a politician succeeds in the current system is to give out goodies and support the actions of government in controlling things (popularly believed to be “solving problems” and “doing things for people”).
How do you fix that kind of incentive system? You can’t do it by supporting individual politicians who support limited government. Even those individuals cannot limit gov’t much and if they tried, they would have no support in short order. Things like restrictive budget laws, restrictions on voting funds for one’s own constituents, strong laws against voting on laws that your donors have an interest in, and other systemic changes are necessary, at a minimum.
Your points about article V are well-founded. Your observation that the fed gov’t is a threat is clear and insightful. The system as it is structured tends to increase that threat over time. It is a system that actually benefits the Fed gov’t when that gov’t does a poorer job—resulting in more calls from the genl population for strong, centralized action.
I don’t think activity focused on individual politicians or small acts is a path to fundamental improvements. But, that is just my opinion. I appreciate and welcome your thoughts and criticisms.
I have trouble with tears publicly even when I am very sad/upset. I know people for whom it is hard to cry. I think it’s an individual thing.
More like a foursome...you forgot Linda :-/
I’d take a dim over Ayotte. Same diff.
BBbbbwwwwaahasaaaaaaaw. That's a good one.
BIG Banks and BIG Insurance funding $2B DAM Midge. No surprise.
Ronald Reagan coined the expression “The Eleventh Commandment.” McQueeg is a walking, talking violation of that Commandment. He has been for decades, and I wish he’d STFU and retire immediately. But he won’t, he’ll hang on until he’s carried out of the office feet first. If he would use just a tenth of the bile that he spills on conservatives against the liberals....
He is a perfect example of why the GOP is dead.
Hope springs eternal, Paladin.
The fleet Commodores are annoyed as that potentially puts their well honed tactics at risk and shows those in their wind wakes that there are other tactics to use to get to clear air.
If the Cruz Armada attracts more independent thinking and more Cruz ships are launched to join the fray, the Commodores may have to eventually have to tack to cover the fleet renegades, thus all sailing in a new direction.
Red England is the least religious region of the country...no moral compass. Lying is as natural as breathing to them.
What is it with Ayotte? Was she a plant? We’d better do a better job at vetting.
And that money's coming from the Federal Reserve Board, thanks to Quantitative Easing.
The way to get the undocumented democrats, like McCrazy, to stop attacking Ted Cruz is to call them out about why they’re doing it: They attack Ted Cruz because they’re racists who hate Hispanic people.
