He's dead serious
Belize is shown on Guatemalan maps as being a province of Guatemala. Whenever the political situation gets dicey in Guatemala whoever the leader is starts whipping-up passions (Falklands-style)to go and retake it.
The Brits have recruited some highly capable Ghurkas to patrol the border, but there is always the risk of invasion.
Same with Costa Rica. They disbanded their army in the 1940’s as the only way to keep it from staging coups against the elected government. If the Sandinista neighbors get ornery it could be a dicey situation.
When the zombie apocalypse happens, it will be worldwide, and I wouldn’t sell life insurance to anyone foolish enough to live in Belize OR Costa Rica.
I’ll be long gone by Monday, October 25, 20105 so I won’t worry about it. On the upside, it’s nice to see someone thinks the USA will last the next eighteen thousand years because I’m not sure we’ll make it through just the next three.
Thailand?
I don’t know about Belize, but, from what I hear, Costa Rica is a crap hole. Sorry.....
ping
Chile?
Better get to work on that backyard Mars Lander. :)
All these places are nice right now but they can be taken over at any time, they can suffer unrest and economic downturns. Everyone bailing from our country right now like a bunch of cowardly RATS will be free for a while but that won’t last.
America is the last stand, if people want to be free, taking America back is the only way to save ourselves, our kids and grandkids.
Nowhere in this article did I see an explanation of gun rights in these various countries...until then...
Belize looked nice enough from my brief visit (less than a day, but I did ride across the country). There are some religious missionary (I think German or almost Amish) communities. Also I think the ChiComs built them a drawbridge. I don’t know how much they are investing there.
There were armed guards on the border with Guatemala and I think heard there can be border skirmishes.
It really depends on how much money you have. Belize and Costa Rica both have lots to offer for Americans with more retirement income. Ecuador, Panama and Colombia are excellent for people with smaller IRAs who may be depending upon Social Security checks to get by. The Phillipines is now one of the best values in the world for American retirees but it’s also very far away and hard to get to. Same thing with Thailand. Personally I’m looking into Ecuador because I know people already living there who do very well on less than $1000/month total expenses. That is food, housing, utilities, medical expenses and dining out/recreation money. If things don’t start improving here VERY quickly I’ll probably be there sometime in 2014.
My friend is from New Zealand. They have been in the states for over ten years. Her husband started a business here and her family adapted to the American way of life easily. They have now gone back home after ten years. They could start to see things getting worse for their business with higher taxes and healthcare. They picked up their things and left about a month ago. They are now back in New Zealand and happy as can be. Sometimes I think that is the place to go if my family needs to leave the USA.
