Sources within the Department of Transportation have revealed that their plan to use National Guard resources to close federally funded Interstate Route 495, circling the nation’s capital, have been approved by unknown White House officials and will be implemented on Friday morning, October 11, in order to thwart the three day Trucker slowdown announced on the Capitol Beltway starting that date, using the federal government shutdown as justification.

The DC National Guard would not be able to do anything on I-495 without the cooperation of MD and VA.
I-495 is in MD and VA not in DC.

DC has a commanding general reporting to federal authorities, however, it doesn’t make a difference because only about 200 feet of the DC Beltway is in DC.

I would love Obama to shut down I-495 and then none of the truckers show up. Obama would look like a cad.
Nope, not when the truckers are likely Teamsters.
1) Closing I-495 to truck traffic for three days, or even one morning, would have major negative effects.
2) Even if they did close I-495 to truck traffic, there are LOTS of roads into DC from the Maryland side.
The Nat.Guard (not the miltia by they way) can only serve at the request of the state gov unless ‘activated’ and then is wholly federal but the Posse Comitatus Act is fed law and precludes the use of fed troops to enforce law.
That is why the Nat. Guard is used in riots and such under the orders of state govs.
Independent truckers are not union.
And antagonize EVERYONE. I have to admit, I like this plan.
