A new study says when it comes to health, leadership and the economy, Utah women are some of the worst in the country. According to the Center For American Progress’ “State of Women In America,” Utah women rank 49th. The only state worse on the report was Louisiana. Utah women are dead last in leadership. Their poverty level is 43rd and they rank 34th in health. California, Colorado, Washington, New York, Connecticut and Maryland are all ranked as the best states for women to get ahead.

Well, the "elephant in the living room" response is that this is directly linked to the Mormon church culture.

This news coming right as many Mormon women readying themselves to stand in line for the priesthood meeting at the upcoming Lds General Conference in Salt Lake City...
...the meeting has always been a "MALES ONLY" lockdown...
...and some Mormon women would like at least audience access, which the Mormon church is saying 'no' to...

In responding to this pressure, the Lds Church has -- for the first time -- chosen to televise the priesthood meeting.

Oh, and for those who think it's somehow comparable to the Roman Catholic church disallowing women to become priests, Mormon priesthood is NOTHING like Catholic priesthood. For example, Mormons even have 12 year old boys become "Aaronic priests."

....depends on what “getting ahead” means. I bet women in Utah are generally much happier than women in states where they can “get ahead.”

BTW, your anti Mormon rants are tiresome. Turning this article into a Mormon V Catholic thing is absurd and to miss the point.

Here’s all you need to know. Hardly an objective study. Read this excerpt from wikipedia.

” The Center for American Progress is a progressive public policy research and advocacy organization. Its website states that the organization is “dedicated to improving the lives of Americans through progressive ideas and action”.[2] The Center presents a liberal[3] viewpoint on economic issues. It has its headquarters in Washington, D.C.[4]
Its President and chief executive officer is Neera Tanden, who worked for the Obama and Clinton administrations and for Hillary Clinton’s campaigns.[5] Its first President and chief executive officer was John Podesta, who served as chief of staff to then U.S. President Bill Clinton. “

I am not Mormon, but lived among many of them when I lived in NM. Knew others from doing business in AZ. They are by and large honest clean people. Yes they have some weird ideas about religion.

But let me remind you that there have been an increasingly large number of companies place distribution centers just outside of CA in UT, because of increasingly difficulty trying to make a profit running companies in CA. I am speaking from the standpoint of riding down a 105 year old company that was bankrupted because of business losses in a similar division based in CA. The TX division never in it’s 105 year had a single unprofitable year, the CA division was owned by the same owner and never had a profitable year in the almost 20 years he owned it.

Be careful what states you throw rocks at.

Have you looked at the data? It looks like a liberal scorecard - management gap for women of color (versus men, I suppose - there's no mention of merit), whether Planned Parenthood is funded, whether or not there's an ultrasound requirement before an abortion, regulating abortion providers...

I would be proud to be 49th, in fact I'd be shooting for 50th.

Perhaps fewer women in Utah want to pursue an aggressive career path. I am Catholic, and I am thankful that I can provide so that my wife can be at home to raise and homeschool the children. Mormons get a lot of things wrong. A woman centering her life on home and family is not one of them.

Oh, and SOMEbody has to be last. I imagine today that dead last by the study’s criteria is miles ahead of first place in 1955, when U.S. society as a whole was in many ways much healthier.

In other words, Utah doesn’t allow an unfettered right for women to murder their babies.

Oh, the horror!
