BOR also neglected to mention the scripture “He that does not work, does not eat.” The left would love that one.
I suggest Jesus was answering him with a version of the Shania Twain song title That Don't Impress Me Much! He certainly did not say "impoverish your neighbor and give it to Caesar."
A Catholic professor at Notre Dame? I never heard of such a thing! All this time I thought they were required to belong to the Assemblies of God.
I can’t stand that blathering, bloviating old fool. He talks because he likes the sound of his voice, and he talks soooo much because he thinks we do, too.
That’s right. Jesus told the rich young ruler to give his wealth to the poor because Jesus knew the man would trust in his wealth as long as he had it, instead of trusting in God.
Furthermore, Jesus told him to give it to the poor and NOT Zaccheus!
God is a jealous God. He certainly doesn’t want you making government your source over Him. See Genesis to Revelation.
Only a theologian could make GOOD NEWS depressing.
Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, "Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year's wages." He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
"Leave her alone," Jesus replied. "It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me."
--John 12:3-8
I think you are missing the voluntary nature of jesus’ call
The only government handout Jesus got was a corrupted death conviction and a free wooden cross to hang upon.
....er, I was trying to make a point.....
*** Jesus was a socialist.***
Well, let’s see how socialist he was.
Jesus told a parable of a rich man who went into a far country, so he called his three stewards together, gave each one a certain amount of money and told them to take care of business till he got back.
When he returned, the first had doubled his money. The next had also doubled his money, but the last had hid his money and had done nothing with it.
The rich man condemns the last one because he should have at least given the money to the bankers and received his back with usury.
Mat 25:27
Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
So much for the socialist Jesus.
Why should she be a Catholic just because she is at ND?
Are the ‘Fighting Irish’ Irish?
Explain, please, how easy it is for a poor man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
These quotes are from the story of the rich young ruler - these quotes were directed to the young man’s specific situation, not a general directive.
Wow, so so so so so off base. Don’t believe Jesus ever said anything about giving all to some bureaucrat to give to preferred classes....
14 For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants[a] and entrusted to them his property. 15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away.
==============================================
No Jesus is not about socialism at all. He is about trusting people with the money that they have shown the wisdom and work ethic to handle.
The devil will give it to anyone, as long as they meet his needs.
True. But, about his requirement that we donate “willingly” to the poor, but the socialists/communists/democrats use FORCE (and our nation’s future debt!) to steal what they what to “give to the poor”. (In exchange for all of the dead’s votes, the illegals’ votes, the unions’ votes, and all of the above’s duplicate votes of course.)
So, you have the clear illegality and immorality of stealing to “give to the poor” rather than doing it voluntarily, but you need to remember the New Testament story of the man and wife who conspired to keep back some of their possessions rather than “give all of the proceeds” to the church (to redistribute by the church.”
Those two sinned (they lied about how much was received when they sold their property) but not only were not forgiven, but were immediately and miraculously killed!
On par with O’Reilly’s assertion that Jesus was put to death because he stood up for the children, or “the folks.”
Not a word about atonement for the sins of the world.
