anytime I see CNN I always ask to have the channel turned .

Now imagine if CNN was not on the airports TV’s. Their viewership would be in single digits or not far from it.

Drives me nuts. I really think it is the only thing keeping them afloat! I saw Fox News in Houston airport and I think Phoenix.

If it wasn’t for airports and other captive locations, CNN would have no viewership.

CNN in airports is similar to USA Today in hotels. Only place most people will find either.

Airports are public facilities, I would expect them to allow only state approved information to be aired on their TVs.

Airports, doctors offices, other public areas - seems for some stupid reason they are the default setting. People don’t think.

There is a special remote control that will turn off nearly any TV. If you have one in your pocket, no one can see it.

CNN is based in Atlanta. That’s why you see it in the ATL.

Every waiting room in every office I’ve been in on any military base has CNN.

Trying to get it changed is like expecting congress to listen.

The real reason?

Airports have to pay to have something on. If they were to get regular cable, the fees would be huge.

By putting up a satellite dish they can access a specific version of CNN dedicated to airports. While it looks like your normal feed, it is designed specifically for the airports.

The airports get something to put up on their TV screens, CNN gets very targeted ad revenues. And travelers get something other than a blank screen.

So, all in all, it comes down to money. And the folks at CNN get to the market first with a specific product at a cheap price.

Just like everything else in the world.

It has very little to do with politics. And yes, it would be suicide NOT to have CNN on at Hartsfield.

"....in the A Concourse at Atlanta and I fu**ing cannot get away from CNN. It's everywhere, spewing propaganda..."

I fly a lot (1/2-the time through Atlanta) - EVERY damn airport has CNN - maybe it's a TSA thing (reminds me of Orwell's "1984" though).
I just sit as far away from TVs as possible and read a book, or people-watch.

CNN has an "airport edition". They probably pay the airport to broadcast it, and maybe even provide/install the televisions.

I also notice it is always on in restaurants and shops that have TV in the waiting area. I always presumed it was some modern day form of Payola.

The business plan for CNN was to equip all airports with
monitors. Turner knew that he would have a wide diverse and captive audience. That is how they started business, before moving on to cable and broadcast.
