Yesterday I was just mentioning to the wife and kid my first visit to the National Zoo, when I was six. The only thing I remember was the pandas being asleep and and a polar bear taking a big poop. Of course now I wouldn’t take my kids to that zoo because the dangerous animals aren’t in cages these days.

I see your point. The devastation we face is grim indeed, but not THAT grim.

Just a word to the wise, though. If you find yourself wanting to delve into “Under The Dome”, go with the book. For heaven’s sake, steer clear of the TV adaptation, or you’ll hear tiny little screams as, one by one, your brain cells die.

Hah..funny you should comment...just finished the book...enjoyed it. I steer clear of King’s movie adaptations...not nearly as good as the books.

I got a text from a friend who lives Near Washington D.C. and can see the District from his front porch.

His text is as follows: "Walked out on the porch this morning to drink my coffee and see this "Government Shutdown" firsthand. Unfortunately, Washington is still there..."

The book WAS good. Agree about King’s TV adaptations, but “Under The Dome” was in a class by itself. It was easily the most stupid, all-around worst thing I have ever seen on TV, and the only thing it had in common with the book was a few characters and the dome itself....the writers made up their own story. We watched solely to laugh at it....it was prime “Mystery Science Theater 3000” material.

'The Capital Crescent Trail' ...Apparently a lot of bicyclists aren't letting a chain across the trail deter them and they're just going around it to continue to use the trail.
