... there has been discussion as to how a three-way tie would be determined for the last clubs in: ...
Cleveland would host Tampa Bay to determine one of the wild cards on Monday; the loser of that game would then play at Texas on Tuesday to determine the second wild card.
The two winners would be re-seeded for the wild card game on Wednesday based on season series. Therefore, the Rangers would host the Rays after going 4-3 against them this season, and would be at Cleveland after going 1-5 against them (and Cleveland would be at Tampa Bay).
If two teams tie for the second wild card, home-field would be determined by the season series and (game) played on Monday. Texas would host Tampa Bay, and be at Cleveland should that scenario unfold. (Cleveland would be at Tampa Bay.) The winner would then travel to the No. 1 wild card destination for a game Wednesday.

Right, but Scherzer’s going to win the AL Cy Young, you go with him as the game 1 starter.
I haven’t really ‘followed’ a team since the Brooklyn Dodgers BUT interest did spark up with the birth of the Nationals.
So was pleasantly surprised at the 2 young pitchers the Cards threw at the Nationals last week....
Really impressive, then I find they are not even in the ‘mix’ as the Cards rotation was being set up....
The one kid (Wacha) threw a ‘no/one’ (questionable hit by Zim in 9th), can imagine if it were one of the ‘premier’ hurlers it very well may have been scored an error??? And Miller with 15 Wins - both held down a ‘hot’ Nationals team who though eliminated were trying to ‘beat’ St Louis because of last years come from behind by the Cards...
Of course that is speculation
All the teams that are currently playing are damn good; I could really see any of them winning the whole thing.
RE: Cardinals. STL seems to have pretty much the best player development system in MLB; they seem to pull players out of thin air and win.
From those of you(us) that remember when 20 wins and 10+ complete games in a year were the norm not the ‘WOW!!!’, he has 5 complete games, I ran a scenario past my grandson (16) Cardinal fan (rest of family Red Sox), so he, like I was, is a rebel and goes ‘against the grain’.
I told him the way things were going look for some team to come up with an outstanding starting pitcher, and when he gets the lead, they would be yanking him and start wheeling in all the 98 MPH plus guys for an inning, throwing all out for that inning...If the payroll could survive you would definitely be guaranteed a ‘winner’ for a couple of years till the Offense started signed FAST BALL, swing at first pitch hitter...
‘They’ always seem to point/counter point don’t they...
I watch/listen to all the Nationals games and it is pretty funny to hear Ray Knight bemoan the fact that ANY team can get 5 hit batters in a game and NO ONE retaliates any more.
Of course, the umpires jump in on the lead off guy getting hit and throwing a warning at both benches, virtually shutting down ANY retaliation.
I always thought a well placed bunt up the 1st base line, forcing the pitcher to field it, then trying to suck him into tagging you out has always been excellent retaliation, especially when you leave a spike trail up his hind quarters. Course with some of those 6’7” pitchers it may be a ‘slight problem’....HA....
My GS umpired today (10/11 yo’s) and the obligatory ‘big kid’, you know the one that has to carry his birth certificate with him, hit a shot to left center and went sliding into 2nd with an obvious 2 bagger and took the 2nd baseman out (he was standing in front of the base, between slider and same)
We didn’t see it but my GS told me that after the slide, the ‘little fella’ got up and ran over to the slider and started punching him (GS said “I didn’t know what to do, he was hitting him like a girl and the big kid was kind of laughing) so what the Ump(GS) did was point to the coach and shrug his shoulders and the Coach removed the 2nd baseman from the game...When he asked me what he should have done I told him the ONLY thing to do was get the 2B out of the area as if the other kid would have fought back there would have been big problems. To put it ‘mildly’ the big kid reminded me of a young Dmitri Young or Cecil Fielder, BIG and moved like a cat.....and they sort of resemble one another, and being ‘alone’ at the game.
These coaches and parents do tend to get nasty.
I had to ‘remind’ a coach last week that my GS wasn’t used to being called a SOB, didn’t like spittle in his face but was raised where he wouldn’t ‘talk back’ to an adult.
BUT as I said, “SIR, I, on the other hand, am not bound by such restrictions, and I would recommend you tone it down, you are coaching 10-12 yo’s and not really setting a good example”....
He apologized to BOTH of us.....Smart man, that coach...
Idiots are broadcasting Monday’s game between the Tigers and A’s on the MLB network only.
Great move...
Why the Hell are they doing that?
I don’t know but it sure appears to have pissed fans from both teams off. I’m betting they’ll do the same with other teams as well.
Maybe game four of the world series.
Do you get that channel? Its a worse move than the NFL Network; at least the NFL isn’t putting playoff games on cable...yet...
All about the $$$.
I don’t get the MLB Network.
I have it; watched it maybe 3 times.
Bleh; you’re not missing much.
I thought there was some kind of rule that locals have to get all home games over the air?
I guess that’s just for football.
Are you familiar with pirated streams, matey?
I think the Rays are phukked, too much thunder in the Red Sox lineup.
Interesting that the offs days did not have any negative effect on their bats, I heard some were worried about that. Sometimes it’s happens, maybe it’s just an excuse.
I’d be OK watching it later in the day on one of the regular stations but it doesn’t sound like it will run.
Iglesias is fast.
35 infield hits this year.
go to a sports bar. They all have MLB.
Alternate gold jerseys of VICTORY.
Irrelevant you say? I beg to differ, it was the jerseys that did it.
whole buncha articles on Mattingly on ESPN ... controversy over his managerial decisions ... what should he have done in game 2 ? Doctor Imp.
Well he sure has hell shouldn’t have walked washed up former flub Reed Johnson, WTF, at the time did you think was a good move? Did anyone on Earth?
Some managers go too far with this lefty matchup crap. You don’t intentionally walk bums unless it’s to get to the pitcher.
i think pitching to Jose Constanza woulda been ok, too. But Withrow is a rookie ... maybe he just wanted to get him out ... and it is arguable that Heyward is a better matchup for Pedro.
I woulda pitched to Constanza (with W) and I would let Ellis hit in the top of the 7th (no bunt) and probably been able to keep Greinke in the game.
and why they going with Nolasco in game 4 ... no way to figure out a way to get Greinke or Kershaw in game 4 ?
Plenty of opps in game 1 to lift Kershaw early .... and go with him in game 4.
Nolasco has been bad lately. Maybe they got Grnkee for relief in game 4.
lemme understand. Nolasco is good enough to give him game 4 ... but they cannot lift Kershaw in game 4 and give 2 or 3 innings to Nolasco in game 1 ... >>>>???
