... there has been discussion as to how a three-way tie would be determined for the last clubs in: ...
Cleveland would host Tampa Bay to determine one of the wild cards on Monday; the loser of that game would then play at Texas on Tuesday to determine the second wild card.
The two winners would be re-seeded for the wild card game on Wednesday based on season series. Therefore, the Rangers would host the Rays after going 4-3 against them this season, and would be at Cleveland after going 1-5 against them (and Cleveland would be at Tampa Bay).
If two teams tie for the second wild card, home-field would be determined by the season series and (game) played on Monday. Texas would host Tampa Bay, and be at Cleveland should that scenario unfold. (Cleveland would be at Tampa Bay.) The winner would then travel to the No. 1 wild card destination for a game Wednesday.

Ping to 140.
STILL waiting for the first close ballgame.
PITT sure to come back with COLE in game 5 vs. Wainwright.
managers very reluctant to pull starters ... even Lester stayed too long, altho he has 6 days to next start in game 5.
Cole got pulled just about right.
Sox did not use their bench.
After a few days off I’m ready for some baseball.
Braves up 4-1 over the Dodgers in the bottom of the 7th.
Tigers - A’s starts at 9:30 on TBS.
LAD-ATL: 4-3 ATL wins.
OAK-DET should be good. Damn, Bartolo Colon is a fatty.
3 runs in the top of the first for the Tigers is what they gotta do. We know they have the best pitching out there these days.
Colon looks bad. I suspect DET will crush them now and set themselves up for the ALCS.
I think Cabrera could have easily walked away with a second triple crown if he hadn’t missed some 12 games.
No doubt; he would have been the first hitter ever to win back to back Triple Crowns.
“Bartolo Colon is a fatty.”
That ... is RACIST!
SOMEHOW ... we are over here on the “wildcard thread” cuz we never started an ALDS=NLDS thread.
Folks, we found another stray ball fan ....
not sure if there is much discussion of the decision to pinch-hit for Greinke.
- A.J. Ellis sacrificed to first, S. Schumaker to second
- L. Ayala relieved M. Minor
- M. Young hit for Z. Greinke
THE ALTERNATIVE WAS TO HAVE ELLIS HIT AWAY AND POSSIBLY THEN HAVE GREINKE SACRIFICE.
WOULd have allowed Greinke to go 2 more innings and possibly hold ATL at 2 runs.
Pitches-strikes - Z Greinke 83-55
does Greinke come back in relief in game 4 on MONDAY?
Game over, 3-2. I think Colon lures little leaguers to his gingerbread house.
Would you have started Scherzer over Verlander, like Leyland did?
That just makes me think that Pujols is guilty.
yes, scherzer
but if scherzer gets the game 5 start, what is verlander’s role in this series after tomorrow? Emergency long relief in game 5 ?
None of the 8 teams has succeeded in manipulating the schedule to go with only 3 starters in the series ... all 8 appear to be going with their 4th starter in game 4.
The NL game is so much more complex with the pitcher batting ... pitching substitutions require more planning ... postseason contrast is a contrast.
scherzer would have batted in the 7th permitting him to pitch the bottom of the 7th and Benoit in the 8th would have required a double switch. Same with Doolittle.
I think Scherzer was the right choice.
I can live with that.
Me too. Otherwise, he’d shut up about it.
Looking at his offensive decline, he must have lost his connection going from STL to LAA...
I think Bar to ate his gingerbread house.
Based on this year’s numbers, yes, I believe Leyland made the right move.
the better ??? today, is whom do you go with in game 5?
PITT: Cole
STL: Wainwright
LAD: what’s his name
ATL: Minor? over Medlen?
BOS: very likely Lester
OAK: prob Colon
DET: looks like Scherzer
TB: Price
Verlander looks rough this year if you only look at wins but his strikeout numbers are up. He’s just been unlucky to pitch in the games where he hasn’t gotten the run support. Sanchez is no slouch either.
