“Diversity/Outreach and other essential services will not be affected.”
Those are the first useless government leaches that should be fired!
Nor will Obamacare. Obama has already said Obamacare gets started no matter what.
Obama is right on target, Screw the military first.
Democrats would back him up if he cooked and ate his children.
Yeah, like people can’t shop elsewhere for awhile. I actually wish the Fedgov would shut down and show people again how uneccessary much of it is. What a National Park is closed for awhile? So what? The checks will keep being sent.
Incidental support for servicepersons' (sic) families is not important?
Why would a non-appropriated fund activity be affected?

“Why would a non-appropriated fund activity be affected?”
Good question. As I understand it the commissaries are run by a concessionaire and the only advantage is their tax exempt status. There should be no government budget involved. This looks like another community organizer attempt to use others to force a solution on the “enemy” (Congress, in this case.)
How much can a government store really cost the taxpayers? Is it more or less than running the EPA? How much do Obama’s czars cost us? How much...
I hope the House starts passing separate non-clean continuing resolutions so that we can have a national debate on what costs are.
If the Navy base in Millington, TN is any example the prices are just as high as the local grocery store, the tiny savings in sales tax is not worth the 22 mile round trip to shop, when I can drive 2 miles to Kroger’s get gas points to boot. They are doing 4 times the gas points on certain gift cards this month. And certain food items. Hubby had .70 cents off gas this month. He fills my car from the 5 gal gas can, then fills both his car and the gas can. You are allowed 35 gals. So pick up those cards if you are going to go buy some thing or eat out, be sure to keep receipts when you buy gift cards no matter where you buy them!
BTW they just put in stupid electronic price system and huge speed bumps in a 5 mph parking lot, those cost $7K per speed bump. Wasted MONEY!
There is a 5% restock fee. Prices are as bad as regular grocery stores. The only better thing is the meat. But the prices are just as high as regular grocery stores. And they don’t do gas points! The few cents I spend in sales tax is offest by getting a $1.00 off per gallon on gas per month. Some times $2 dollars if we have a big project, we just buy gift cards which count as gas points and on some months they are double or 4 times the points at Kroger’s.
Commissaries are appropriated fund activities. They are not run by a concessionaire but are managed by the Defense Commissary Agency.
tough toenails
I totally agree and I am an Army vet
You are right on target. I work at Ft Knox, so have the advantage of not having to make a special trip to the commissary since I am already there. I am noticing fewer and fewer retired folk every time I go. The Kroger points for gift cards are a real bonus. I keep telling people about them, but it seems they fall on deaf ears. We get them for Amazon, Lowes, Cracker Barrel and others. I paid $2.52 for Kroger gas this week.
Probably because Obama wants it affected.
He tries to pick the things that will do the most harm.
He did the same thing in sequestration.
IIRC, DeCA receives about one billion appropriation for its managerial staff. We had a five day only schedule here at Fort Jackson during sequester.
The commissary here has real competition; it has a surcharge of five percent (since 1971) but the South Carolina sales tax on food is only one percent.
DeCA prices on fresh meats & produce are still kinda hard to beat.
I heard that with no budget, only C/R’s, that a govt shutdown really will mean no checks for soldiers & grandmothers. Anyone hear differently?
They always close things to inflict the maximum pain. They NEVER deny themselves their special privileges and never stop sending our money to jihadis.
“If the Navy base in Millington, TN”
I thought that was shut down years ago and turned into an industrial park. I went to school there in 1968.
” I actually wish the Fedgov would shut down and show people again how uneccessary much of it is. “
That is exactly why they don’t want to shut it down: People will realize most of it is useless. That, and they cannot expand their communist agenda if they are not at work.
