The paleo-tectonic maps of retired geologist Ronald Blakey are mesmerizing and impossible to forget once you've seen them. Catalogued on his website Colorado Plateau Geosystems, these maps show the world adrift, its landscapes breaking apart and reconnecting again in entirely new forms, where continents are as temporary as the island chains that regularly smash together to create them, on a timescale where even oceans that exist for tens of millions of years can disappear leaving only the subtlest of geological traces.
With a particular emphasis on North America and the U.S. southwest—where Blakey still lives, in Flagstaff, Arizona—these visually engaging reconstructions of the Earth's distant past show how dynamic a planet we live on, and imply yet more, unrecognizable changes ahead.
These images come from Ron Blakey's maps of the paleotectonic evolution of North America. The first map shows the land 510 million years ago, progressing from there — reading left to right, top to bottom — through the accretion and dissolution of Pangaea into the most recent Ice Age and, in the final image, North America in its present-day configuration....

how is this “nonsense”? dr. blakey’s been working on these maps in conjunction with numerous scholarly publications and a few books since the 1970s.
My wife was watching one of those “celebrity house” shows, and one of them had a big wall/fireplace made of imported sandstone. I told her ours was imported sandstone, too. She asked where it was from, and I told her “Pangea”.
In all fairness, it is rather unfortunate that such maps end with the present day. It would be as creative a project to show, based on current tectonic trends, what the future holds.
For example, in a mere 50 million years, Africa is going to jam headlong into Eurasia, as the most dramatic change.
At 150 million years, Australia will join with Antarctica, yet likely have a land bridge to Eurasia. And at 250 million years, the continents are generally going to Pangea-up again.
Blakley’s work is not nonsense. My response was directed at the link posted in post 16. Apparently, if you get Google Earth, you too can be a geologist.
It is also true that the Earth’s rotation is slowing, but I’m pretty sure that if we end capitalism, adopt globalism and a massive egalitarian wealth redistribution, we can fix that. /s

This is fantastic! “Annals of the Former World”, by John McPhee describes a lot of this, but I always had a hard time visualizing it well. Love it, love it, love it. Thanks for the link!

So there we have it....... global warming is not causing the sea levels to rise. The continent is subsiding as it moves.
Chicken little must be reeducated. Quacky Lacky must develop a program to curtail continental drift.
This is not theory but reality. They have the drift numbers and proof, not models.
