Making low temp charcoal this morning in a makeshift pyrolyzer. Problem is that I can only make a little over a quart of charcoal at a time, and I need cubic feet of the stuff.
I've got my scouts looking for junk I can build a larger one with. My junk pile came up short this time.
Added advantage is that it makes the greenies crazy, since I'm releasing all that carbon into the air.

Rightly, I just found out we have a robbery problem in this county and you need to know it.
They are targeting older citizens. They spot an older person in a car and follow that person home so they know where the house is. Then, one of them comes to the door with fake credentials and says he's from (any) utility company and wants to look at the back yard to see if trees need to be trimmed. The older person takes the man to the backyard and while they are out there, the other criminal goes in the house and steals certain items and takes them out of the house. Then the older person and the fake utility man come back in the house and the fake guy leaves.
This has happened in Conroe and in The Woodlands. Don't let any so called utility person get you out of your house. Send any such person on his way, then call the cops.
I don't think they would try that in here as they would have to get through the gate but they could follow another car in. These townhomes are stuck together and out in the open, they are not separate houses so I don't think robbers would try that in here.
In each case, it was an elderly woman they robbed. Elderly women tend to trust people, big mistake. I, however, do not fall in that trust category. During the day, my metal front door is open so the doggie can see what is happening outside. There is a glass door in front of the metal door and it stays locked. I can see the whole person who steps up to that glass door and I'm not opening it. The robber can take his utility credentials and get the hell away from my door while I am dialing 911. Think I will put my Ruger 38 special on the small antique desk close to the front door. Picking that up will scare the freak robber to death - good.
Can you imagine doing this to little old ladies? Following them home, then using this scam to rob them? They are taking the sterling silver and jewelry - things the guy inside the house can quickly get. I saw a film of one house after the robbery and this little old lady opened the drawer where the sterling silver was and it's bare. I've got sterling silver and my jewelry is such, he could take a trip around the world. However, the jewelry is not out in the open and he would never find it. I have it in that special place because it is so valuable.
I hope they catch these robbers of old ladies.
All right - all that picture did was make me even more interested. How about a how to bullet point list of how to do this?
What kind of wood are you using? We used to make mesquite
charcoal in the ground, actually on the ground then covering it with a wet gunny sack and cover it with dirt. Then we
found a source and stopped the experiment.
