2 weeks left, playoff races sizzle (Baseball Live Thread)

THE WILD SIDE: It's a scramble for the two AL wild-card spots, with a half-dozen teams trying to claim them. Texas, Cleveland and Tampa Bay are at the top, but wobbling.

Pinch-hitter Justin Morneau's single sent Pittsburgh over the Cubs 3-2 Sunday, leaving the Pirates even with St. Louis for the NL Central lead.

WHAT'S THE FORECAST?: Wicked weather always seems to wreak havoc at the end of the season. Cleveland waited out a rain delay of nearly 4 1/2 hours in Chicago before beating the White Sox 7-1 Sunday night. Just watch - somewhere, a storm will sweep into another stadium at the most inopportune time.

Every night I can I watch the Phillies, Nats, Pirates, Orioles and whatever game MLB might be carrying. All in HD and yes I can see the individual blades of grass and squirrels and pigeons.

Not much in the story for fans of the NL, where real baseball is still played.

Texas plays Tampa Bay for a few games. Only Cleveland could blow an advantage like that.

I think you have much to be proud of this year with the Tigers. It’s like they always are: They’re either Great! or Suck! This is a Great! year, so enjoy, old FRiend.

Baseball is a sport in the truly great American tradition. It takes a team of nine men to field a ball in defense, but it always boils down to the lonely quality of one man’s personal excellence to swing a bat.

And rules that can be relied upon. You have to get *every* out. Home bats last.

Baseball is definitely something special and it takes an experienced viewer to appreciate the little nuances.

Yes, and having been a long-suffering Tigers fan (until we birthed the Diamondbacks in my adopted home town), I learned the nuances at my Grandmother’s knee (She lived in North Adams). Oh, but I loved the days we had a Manager named “Sparky.”

Appreciate you posting this thread.

Nothing more American than Baseball, the perfect game.

All of the playoff bound teams are pretty well matched, should be great October ball.

Wow,

Tigers @ Marlins should be a blast, Marlins are a minor league team, but may surprise (players are desperate).

I'm there for sure

I'm cheering for the Cardinals.

One of the teams I'm pulling against.

It seems like he's not comfortable until he's got two guys on base.

That's a common condition among closers. My wife and I call it "Closer's Disease." We're thinking of organizing a telethon. :)
