When it hits the fan Americas population centers will explode in violence, looting, and total breakdown of law and order.
Its a theory put forth by numerous survival and relocation specialists, and one that makes complete sense if you consider what happens in a truly serious collapse-like scenario.
Survival Blog founder James Rawles calls them the golden horde:
Because of the urbanization of the U.S. population, if the entire eastern or western power grid goes down for more than a week, the cities will rapidly become unlivable. I foresee that there will be an almost unstoppable chain of events:
Power -> water -> food distribution -> law and order -> arson fires -> full scale looting

Moco? Ach. PG is the one to fear in a breakdown. I’m schooling people now on just how to get out of the metro without taking the main highways and roads.
Just taking 66W can be a grueling drive in heavy traffic.
My swamp is available and has plenty of room. Just don’t freak at the moccasins. They are pretty harmless if you don’t startle them. I understand they taste ok. I’m limited to kosher.

I think this map is pretty stupid. Notice how it stops at county lines and state lines.
If there is unrest, a line on a map is not going to contain it.
Being from Massachusetts, I wish that it would. But knowing human nature...it won’t.
Just East of Washington DC, near where MD Rt 450 and the Capitol Beltway intersect.
I used to work downtown and I do not miss it at all. I was miserable down on Greene street and in my last years on George Rogers Blvd.
My daily trek is down 26 to the woods to a place where cell phones don’t work and life is fairly low stress.
And the tan dots....
We’re about 45 miles from Cleveland.I expected my friends and I will be engaged in savage combat after about 3 days.
I work in Kent county, live in Barry.
Fortunately, I don’t have to get around the bad part to get home.
Good info.
Old soul ... now where have I heard that one before? Was that a line in a movie, somewhere in time? ... I’m a sucker for that sort of story. But then I try to write them, too.
They know Squantos is nearby.
If God is pleased to let me do so, I’ll be leaving Maryland within a month. I have long dreamed of moving to Virginia and if my hopes are realized, I’ll be on a few acres where no one can readily see me.
Really? Lancaster, PA where the Amish live is going to be utter chaos?
They grow their own food, don’t use electricity and help each other.
Everyone should read that short story. It is exactly how most people will come to view and experience the downfall.

Saw that too, right away. Can’t be serious. Yet, I see no blue for Hampton/Newport News/Norfolk, VA. I’d take my chances with Greenville County in a heart beat...compared to those Hampton Roads communities.
Do not buy that about Greenville County (SC)...not in the very least...not even in the least, whatsoever! Live here, so I have knowledge, experience, attestation to go by.
Bryson City in Swane County should be in good shape.

I have a buddy that has a Cumming address, but is really well west of GA 400 near where Forsyth, Dawson, and Cherokee meet. Pretty good area, neighborhood adjoins a reservoir lake, only one road in and out. Not as far out as perhaps someone might want, but far enough to have a chance.
I’m within a couple miles of the Perimeter. Might get interesting if a real SHTF situation came to pass.
