Miley Cyrus’ exhibition is the product of an immature young woman and terribly bad management.
she wants to transition from ingénue to adult roles and her manager either convinced her that this was the way to do it, or she bulldozed over her manager. Either way it was a major mistake.
If she thinks that this was the way to boost her record sales — just look at which female singer rules the airwaves. Adele just stands at the microphone in a black dress and big hair and rips the roof off.
Poor management kills more careers than drugs and laziness.
Not that Beyonce was any better.
Madison Avenue has been using sex for years to hype products completely unrelated to the reproductive function. And we as a nation rewards Madison Avenue by falling for the stunt.
Sex sells.
Miley is by no means the first women (or girl, if you prefer) to go this route. The days of Annette Funnichello, Gale Storm, Mary Tyler More, Lucille Ball being big, well-paid starts are pretty much gone. The tabloids are full of stories of movie starlets' decisions to "bare all"
Sex sells.
And the United States people buy it.

Miley? She’s trying to cover up her vocal inadequacies by acting risque and in the end exposing herself as nothing but a pitchy stripper.
She’s still some privileged white girl who used to be a Disney princess, and her attempt to appear otherwise was a fail. Her desperate try-hardness is what had me covering my face in second hand embarrassment. The girl just doesn’t have that kind of talent at all.

If I may speak for those of my sex, let me say I found the video a breath of fresh air. Since things such as this can now be watched on TV, at home and at a convenient hour, no longer do men need to stay up late, ruin their health with alcohol and spend their paychecks at stripper bars to see such a show.

The entire audience of the MTV Music Awards ceremony could be described as excess population. Cyrus is just the next logical step in societal devolution.
