After throwing at ARod several times - even behind him - when a pitch finally hit him high on his back, a large number of the fans at Fenway actually loudly cheered.
Disgusting.
I'd walk off the field if I was playing for the Yankees.
That's pure evil.
You don't cheer a supposed professional pitcher hitting a batter on purpose.
I have NO desire to see Boston-NY games the rest of this year.
I could care less about any media-hype about supposed competition between the two teams. As far as I'm concerned it's a media scam to get a broader audience.
It's not about baseball.
And at least he didn't go Bert Campeneris on him.
Pure evil. Yup. Word is it’s all they’re talking about in Eygpt.
Original Poster, you are aware that A-Rod was just busted for ratting out fellow MLB players that used steroids in an attempt to detract attention from himself getting busted for roids, right? Sorry, but this beaning has little to do with the Sox-Yankees rivalry, and everything to do with A-Rod ratting out other members of the baseball fraternity. A-Rod should get used to the beanballs because he likely has more coming in the near future for his egregious actions violating the trust players have among each other.
In a game that includes Barry Bonds, that would be quite a feat.
You’re a crybaby just like your cheatin’ hero. ESPN, famous for Keith Olbermann is sucking up to that cheater.
This is how Nolan Ryan handled punks who charged the mound. The strike zone was his!!!!!
Screw MLB.
I know that intentionally hitting batters is part of the game.
But if you get this blood lust going in the fans, where a pitcher can throw repeatedly in the same at bat, missing the hitter, then finally hit him, and the fans go wild, and the pitcher is not ejected, that’s not a game I want to watch.
I think 2 of the 3 pitches were obviously thrown at ARod in that at bat. Ump should have warned the pitcher at that point. Fourth one hit em. Pitcher not thrown out, when it was clear it was intentional.
Like many are saying here, everyone watching knew he was intending to hit him. When its intentional, ump has the option to toss the pitcher. I’m not all jumping up and down when I see a Yankee pitcher intentionally hit a guy. I grumble, alright, get it done, thanks you idiot you put a guy on to make a point. It’s usually done when the odds are low that the guy will then score. But there’s no guarantee. I don’t like giving up a walk for the sake of making a point. There will probly be retaliation now way down the road. It just keeps the stupid “rivalry” going which I’m sick of. I was so sick of Boston when they had their “crazy years” that finally ended when BV left. They made a great bunch of changes this year and got going, it made the games much more enjoyable to watch, just normal baseball. If they could just keep the fans and the ESPN annoucers out of Fenway it would be great, IMHO.
You a Yankees fan? Your from NJ so I would not be surprised.
IMHO...
Love him. It’s country hard ball with the big boys.
A pitcher don’t get thousands of strikeouts by hitting people to settle off-the-field grievances.
On-field competition is what it’s all about.
Pitcher trying to keep hitter off balance.
Good hitters don’t get thousands of hits by flinching and giving up the outside part of the plate.
The umps called it the way they did, right or wrong.
no he doesn’t
2nd generation. But for me, IMHO, it’s all about how the game’s played, play fair, play hard, no slackin’, and have some humility. Then if you throw in some talent, it’s fun to watch.
Yep, the game goes on.
What about Ty Cobb?
“Went to a Red Sox game in 190.”
You mean they were playing baseball even back then.
BTW, you’re reeeallllly old.
Another strong candidate. You could even argue, back in the day, for Carl Mays, the pitcher whose inside pitch killed Ray Chapman as mentioned earlier in the thread.
You forgot about this guy
Har!
That’s up there with the Pete Rose Bud Harrelson fight in 73
His rookie card looks different.
