Stand With Arizona

The border is “safer than ever”. So DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano has told us the past four years. Again and again.

Barack Obama has mocked those who say the border is unsafe: “Maybe they’ll need a moat. Maybe they’ll want alligators in the moat. They’ll never be satisfied.”

But for Texans, the Rio Grande is wide open - thanks to Federal failure to secure it  - and is a growing threat to the safety of citizens and law enforcement, on land and water.

Wide open...and violent, as a Congressional delegation visiting the border found out this week. Three Republicans were touring the river on a Texas state gunboat when they spotted a body floating in the river, later determined to be a Honduran national killed by Mexican cartel violence, according to the Randolph Reporter.

It was a shocking sight that dramatized the reason for the three-day trip by a handful of Congressmen to see firsthand the vast immigration problems along the southwest border of the United States.

Congressman Leonard Lance (R-NJ) spoke with the Reporter and is quoted as having said: “What impressed me in a tragic, negative way was seeing a dead body in the Rio Grande River. Authorities told us it was probably related to drug trafficking.”

Congressman Lance also revealed he and the others from Congress wore bullet-proof vests and traveled the Rio Grande River in armored boats, as U.S. law enforcement routinely are targeted by gunman as they patrol the river.

Texas has been mostly abandoned by the Obama Administration to fend for themselves, and being Texans, they have stepped into the breach to try - with their far more limited resources - to keep their officers and citizens safe.

Last year SWA chronicled how ranchers in the Rio Grande Valley were stocking up on AK-47s to defend their property and lives from border violence, after months of being outgunned by Mexican cartel gunmen.

Then, we reported how, in order to deal with the Federal failure to secure the river and the drug and human smugglers who use it, Texas Department of Public Safety deployed gunboats on the river, armed with major firepower.

Several times last year and again this past March, Texas DPS and Rangers have come under fire from the Mexican side, or from cartel boats right on the river. The cartels have grown increasingly bold and are more heavily armed every few months, as the battle continues to intensify.

All Perry has to do is declare an emergency then call up the National Guard and seal that border!

But isn't talking about it and posturing like a hard nosed conservative better?

Now there's something to ask all those "the border is safe" types. Offer them a tour like these guys took, only with no bulletproof vests. The crickets would sound louder than ever.

Well the Chicago folks buy all the drugs. They are encouraging the cartels to operate here. Remember, it’s the LW that wants the drugs made legal. They “claim” is wi increases tax revenues. Where it will do is increase the flow of drugs from Mexico

So why didn’t alligators get it?

I said that’s ALL Perry has to do. I’d never take a bet that he’d do it. I’ve always thought he was phony.

Hopefully not another one of our Border Patrol. The regime has blood on its hands.

“they spotted a body floating in the river, later determined to be a Honduran national killed by Mexican cartel violence”

That’s hilarious. They can ID a “Honduran national” floating in dirty river water, but in more than 5 years we have no idea who the current resident of the White House is.
