On Thursday, CNNs Anderson Cooper interviewed Oprah Winfrey and Forest Whitaker, stars of Oscar-bait The Butler. During the interview, in which Cooper thoughtfully nodded as Winfrey and Whitaker race-baited, Oprah suggested Emmitt Till and Trayvon Martin were equivalent symbols, and that Americans were racist even if they didnt have ill will toward black people. When Cooper cited polls showing that black Americans were upset about Trayvon Martin and whites thought too much had been made of the case, Oprah sighed, Oh, I know, I know. Thats why I love the film in light of this discussion is because it brings context to this discussion. I mean, look at the film, beginning with that lynching scene and ending with walking into Obamas office, look at what has happened in the span of one mans lifetime.
------------------
Cooper asked, Its amazing to me how people from different backgrounds see this. He then talked about a juror who did not understand, did not feel linked to Trayvon Martin, felt connected to George Zimmerman in a way, but not Trayvon Martin, she felt race was not part of this case at all. Oprah couldnt wait to jump in, blurting, People dont feel its race because people dont call it race
A lot of people think if they think theyre not using the n-word themselves, they physically arent using the n-word themselves, and do not harbor ill will towards black people that its not racist. But to me its ridiculous to look at that case and not to think that race was involved.

The accepted story is that Emmett Till was killed for whistling at a white women, like Trayvon was killed while walking peacefully home from getting Skittles and iced tea.
The trial testimony paints a different picture.
On the evening of the 24th, Emmett, and five of his relatives and their friends, drove a few miles to Bryant's Grocery & Meat Market in Money. After a few minutes of milling around in front of the store, Emmett followed one of the other boys into the Bryant store. After the other boy made his purchase, Emmett was left alone in the store for a minute or so with Carolyn Bryant, the white woman working the store's cash register. What was done or said in those few moments is not known for certain, but whatever happened doomed Emmett. As Carolyn Bryant would later tell the story in a Tallahatchie County courthouse, Till asked her for some candy inside a candy counter. When Bryant placed the candy on top of the counter, Till grabbed her right hand tightly and asked, "How about a date, baby?" When Bryant pulled her hand free and started to walk away, Till grabbed her by the waist near the cash register and told her, "You neednt be afraid of me, baby Ive [slept] with white women before. Till's cousin, Simeon Wright, writing about the incident decades later, questioned Carolyn Bryant's account. Entering the store "less than a minute" after Till was left inside alone with Bryant, Wright saw no inappropriate behavior and heard "no lecherous conversation." Wright said Till "paid for his items and we left the store together."Whatever happened in the store, the behavior of Emmett and his four companions sufficiently alarmed the woman that she felt the need to immediately arm herself, and the incident, as related to her husband, upset him sufficiently that he felt the need to respond. There is, however, general agreement about what happened next outside the store. As Carolyn Bryant left the store and headed towards a car (to retrieve, she testified, a gun), Emmett whistled at her. Till's cousin described it as "a loud wolf whistle, a big city 'whee wheeeee!'" Till's Mississippi cousins instantly knew that Till had broken a longstanding taboo relating to social conduct between blacks and whites, and that they were in grave danger. They quickly ran to their car and sped out of Money.
Thanks for putting together the response. Some folks like to wallow in left wing propaganda.
Even without the battery that took place in the store, the undisputed actions outside meet the common law definition of an assault: ‘an act intended to cause an apprehension of harmful or offensive contact that causes apprehension of such contact in the victim’.
Actually Oprah you sound kind of like a racist to me.
We can hope.
Exactly.
She might as well just come out and say, “If you’re white, you’re racist.”
The only way you can never be considered a racist is to understand that blacks can never be wrong in any way, shape, or form. You must never disagree with them or condemn them, no matter the circumstances. They are automatically a special, elevated-—dare I say sainted?-—race, because of their past noble suffering, which is unlike any human suffering in the history of the world.
What’s that you say? The Jews suffered just as badly-—some would say worse-—only 70 years ago and aren’t trying to get a free ride because of it? And today’s blacks can’t even point to a living relative who was a slave? You’re a racist!
And it doesn’t matter if white guilt has consumed you, and you’ve spent your life slobbering over blacks and trying to prove you’re one of the GOOD whites because, yes, you understand their struggle and you want to help them. It means nothing, as George Zimmerman found out. They’ll turn on you in a minute.
Yes.
In my town, our formerly lovely park---a park in which I spent a big part of my childhood---has been taken over by black punks who stage fights to post on Youtube. A city council member stated publicly that his daughter is afraid to take her child into the park because of the "thugs, who are primarily young black men". Oh, the outrage that resulted as he was accused of being a racist.
The result? He went on the local news to apologize. He stood there, literally wringing his hands, stammering about how sorry he was, that he should never have mentioned race because the problem cuts across racial lines.
The problem is, it doesn't cut across racial lines. The thugs are BLACK. But the truth will never be upheld until white people can find their guts.
If someone calls you a racist, just shrug and say, "What are you going to do about it?"
Actually, that what this really is all about -Oprah’s self interest and self promotion at the expense of others.
Oprah stirring up racial controversy to generate buzz to promote a new racially themed movie she has an interest in.
Whenever you really take a close look at the actions of the Race Baiters you eventually discover you are actually looking a Race Grifter who is exploiting racial sensitivity and racial division for their own personal gain.
These Race Grifters are usually self centered, narcissistic psychopaths.
They have no concern that their use race baiting for pursuit of personal gain, personal aggrandizement and personal power revives and gins up old hatreds and resentments that most all Americans have moved on from close to a generation ago.
They have even less concern that their self centered race baiting does damage to the relations between all of the rest of us members of society who, in the spirit of good will to all , sincerely just want to move forward with our lives and get along with our neighbors - regardless of their race or color of their skin.
The thing they are least concerned with is the profound damage they do with their exploitation of the Black community.
By keeping racial issues alive and at the forefront of the Black community and inflaming racial tensions they prevent members of the Black community from moving past racism and moving on with their lives.
Oprah is especially offensive in her claims of racial discrimination in America which ,incidentally, did not even occur in America. The alleged event (which may or may not have even happened, BTW) occurred in Switzerland on Oprahs Five Star Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous European Vacation on a shopping spree in a tony, very upscale Swiss Hand Bag Boutique of the kind that carries $28,000 hand bags.
Poor put upon Oprah. Its simply horrible to see a person so devastated and held back by racism and deprived of opportunity in such a racist country like Switzerland
Correction - it seems that that was actually a 28,000 Euro purse which at current exchange rates makes it more like a $35,000 purse.
She’s doing her Saint Oprah routine.
Personally, I think, the fewer movies we see the better. If you are thinking of seeing a movie do some research and look for the hidden messages that more often than not are found in today’s movies. Then don’t go if they are up to their old Hollywood tricks. Freerepublic might be a good way to get the dish on movies before wasting your money to go see them.
Emmet Till was a teenage black boy who was tortured and murdered by whites in the South in the 1950’s. They say it was because he flirted with a white woman. How many whites have been murdered, raped or tortured by blacks since Emmet Till died?
Having a dream in which you use the N word makes you racist.
Oprah represents the thinking of most of the top blacks in the country whether in politics, media, entertainment or the clergy. If you want to be on the top tier of black society you have to be anti-white.
:emulation mode active!:
Thought crime!
Thought crime!
Get the thoughter!
Remember how they mocked Ann Romney for wearing a shirt that was worth hundreds? But Michelle Obama can wear designer clothes everyday and some ugly $500 sneakers.
I don’t go to that many movies to start with. But I also go for entertainment. I want something that I don’t have to put a lot of effort into. Consequently I see things that look interesting to me. Trust me I don’t spend time looking for hidden messages
Doesn’t it spoil the movie for you when you find a liberal zinger in the story? It is like finding a fly in the soup but the liberals in Hollywood put their flies in the soup on purpose.
Not really. It has been scores of years since movies had a por US pro capitalist consistency to theme. Even ads on television contain the various things that people complain about in movies. I know what propaganda is. I recognize it when I see it hence it doesn’t work on me. The only thing that spoils a movie for me is a) a zero plot; b) people talking; c) people texting. Hence the reason I rarely go to the theater to see a movie.
