Go for it, I'm sure this won't take long.
What kind of Hemi is that? Just 'cause I look stoopid don't mean I ain't.
What the hell turns the blower from the back of the engine? Looks like the belt is goin to the bell housing.
It’s a mid-engined car. The front of the car is to the left in the picture, and the rear is to the right.
Appears to be a Ford GT.
I thought there were only like 20 real cobras still alive? I mean the original 427 2 seaters. At least that’s what I think I heard on the Motorhead show where they had Leno on it (he owns 2 of them).
He said that some sheik owns like 6 of them, and wanted to buy his (one original, one restored), but he won’t sell them, and Carol Shelby Inc. owns a few as well.
Saw this show a few years back.
But I’m no Ford expert, or motorhead expert by any means. Please enlighten me if you could.
That’s a Ford GT in the pic, with a Lysholm supercharger.
Admittedly, I haven’t paid much attention to hot-rod tech since the late 70’s. Is that motor facing backwards? I can’t imagine what the drive-belt is hooked to unless it is...
Ah! Mid-engine?
Why does this thread remind me of:
A few years ago I took an 16” x 20” air filter for my hvac into a big box store to get a replacement. I asked a young man where to find the air filters. He stared at the air filter for a long time and finally said, “OMG - what kind of car do you have?”
Yup, that GT was at the Cobra show in Plano last year. Aaron Shelby works at the bank up there and they had a collection of the most drool-worthy hardware I've ever seen. Couple dozen Shelby Cobras, couple dozen more Shelby Mustangs, three DeTomaso Panteras, couple of Sunbeam Alpines, some other stuff.
I shot pix until the memory card was full, and I think I got a chubby ;)
And oh yeah, one of these:
Worthy use of leisure time my brothers.

Here is a pretty good explanation of turbochargers and superchargers and how they work.
If you have a few minutes, read the Jelopnik article for more insights.

You forgot about the distributor cap. Its clearly visible right under that thingy.
Maybe Barrett-Jackson or Shelby family has a count on them, but I bet there are many more than 50 still running.
I was on a volunteer SCCA and NASCAR Rescue Team in Riverside, CA in 1963 when Cobras first hit. Saw first one at a race near LA, it was passing Vettes in the straights and in the turns.
At a big race at Riverside Raceway, Cobras dominated and after the race Shelby's guys took our Rescue Team members for a pure racer Cobra ride around the track. Nothing quite like coming down the back straightaway at must have been 200+ heading into the 180 banked curve. Never to be forgotten or topped!!!
I would have loved to have been there.
I’ve seen replicas driving around from time to time, not sure anyone would drive an original around. They have to be worth near a million bucks each I would guess.
But that would have been great to see, I bet you saw a lot of cool stuff, Ratfink stuff etc.
Bwahaha, I read that. CNN - Completely Nitwit Nincompoops, can’t you dipchits at least run stuff past some editor that might have looked under the hood of a car before?
What a show. I know what all that stuff is. How about the GT-H in black and gold? Can you believe that back in the day you could rent one of those at the Hertz outlets in SoCal? Mas macho.
Did you know, back in the period you are talking about, Ol’ Shel built two “Super Snake” Cobras? 1100 HP as I recall. I believe Bill Cosby owned one but scared himself so bad in it he sold it to a guy who later crashed it and was killed. The remaining SS was auctioned at Barrett-Jackson a few years ago by Carroll himself and went for $5.5M.
I have a Kimble cut-away poster of the beast here in the DawgHouse as I type. Looking at it makes my niplets all tingly ;)
In 2012 one sold for $1.5 mill on Barrett-Jackson. Guess its like a ChrisCraft, if you have to ask “how much”, you can’t afford it.
If I could afford one I’d drive it “some”.
That was a super nice GTH. You think it was ever a rental?
With so many real Snakes around I couldn’t focus on any ol Mustang very long.
