700 million active daily users should probably get out and meet some real people. Can you say anti-social media?

Another article knocking Facebook and its users. I’ve been on FB for 4 years and love it, as do millions of other people. There’s nothing anti-social about it. Everyone I know on it has a very active social life besides FB. Whoever wrote this knows nothing about which they speak. Being on FB is no different than spending time on the computer being on Freerepublic, just one is for policital activities, and the other is for more friends and family oriented activities.

Facebook users in a study led by the University of Michigan wound up feeling worse about themselves after two weeks, and their moment-to-moment mood darkened the more they browsed the social medium

That has to be true for my liberal FB friends as they are regularly exposed to the truth about their socialist hero and the failures of his Marxist regime.

Only bummer I get is that every change takes something that was working fine and makes it less intuitive.

A place on the internet where people can share information, interact and communicate with each other.

Freerepublic of course is a social media site. Outside of threads we got ping lists, interest groups, wide ranging topics, friends, like ideas, etc... So, those here to knock social media should not cast any stones.

their moment-to-moment mood darkened the more they browsed the social medium. ... The more you used Facebook, the more your mood dropped.

"THESE ARE MY FRIENDS???"

I was reading a recent issue of Mojo (music) magazine. A musician (one of the Pet Shop Boys) said that familiarity breeds contempt. He said something about how social media sites (especially for public figures/entertainers, but really everybody) leads to feelings of closeness and "friendship" but it isn't. I'm drawing a blank on the verbiage and the article is not online.

The band was not among those I bought the magazine to read about. The comment about social media was one of the highlighted quotes.

Never been on Facebook and never will. But I am in IT security ops so I know what really goes on.

Wow, over 50 posts and no one has yet made the obligatory, yet douchey “What’s Facebook?” comment. I’m impressed.
