Facebook Is A Bummer, Study Says (Anti-Social Media?)
Los Angeles Times ^ | August 14, 2013, 3:03 p.m. | Geoffrey Mohan

Posted on 08/14/2013 3:45:45 PM PDT by Veto!

Facebook users in a study led by the University of Michigan wound up feeling worse about themselves after two weeks, and their moment-to-moment mood darkened the more they browsed the social medium. ... The more you used Facebook, the more your mood dropped.

To test your hypothesis, I created a quick FB account. I’ll even tell you the name (since I will delete it soon enough: Quup Poopu [lol] ).

I lied on everything, after creating a equally false outlook.com ID.

No home town needed and I can now use it to look at any and all open IDs. Want me to go further and look for exposures?

Now go and tell me what you “know” about me from that ID.

You’ve made my point. You can go on FB and not have to worry about ID theft. Nice to have you aboard, fellow FB user.

Ah, a FB stalker. So you are one of those without a social life who needs to go on FB, no matter what the reason.

>>Ah, a FB stalker. So you are one of those without a social life who needs to go on FB, no matter what the reason.<<

You are like a person who, when someones steal your wallet to prove they can, then lights the money on fire to emphasize the point, says “oh, you are an arsonist.”

It isn’t that I do this (I don’t and will allow the new ID to expire on its own), it is how EASY it was to do. I get up in the morning, go to my regular job (a bit different from most but lucrative enough) and do my work.

There are thousands who get up in the morning, pour their Cheerios (and never have to get out of their PJs), fire up their laptop, and troll FB in the way I just did in a matter of minutes. And they spend HOURS looking for the right combination of foolish background information posted in the open and even more foolish personal information posted (”Hey, we used to go to HS together — I FRIENDED you!”) to total strangers.

There are thousands of these types and millions of fools who invite them in.

It is like posting a sign that says “door unlocked at 123 Main Street.” You need someone who sees it, determines its value, is willing to do the work to see who is home and whether there is anything worth taking, etc.

You aren’t safe, you are just lucky (so far).

I could give you mt RL name (I won’t) and you would not be able to determine a damn thing about me without a LOT of additional information I would not give you. Can you say the same?

And you did that, right? Your FB name has no relationship to your RL name (so I guess you called your friends and said ‘If you get a Friend request from Quup Poopu’ it is really me so accept it!”

You FoolBookers don’t work that way and you know it.

Even if you DID, you would eventually post “Oh, you looked like that when you were a baby” to your kids or somesuch and that would be end of that deception.

Total silence is the only rational option.

But of course I address people who think twitting a message “I am doing a number 2 a the Starbucks at La Cienega and 10th! #staytunedfortexture” is perfectly normal.

And you know that people act this way how? No matter how you spin it, you proved the point that you can get around all the things on your list that you say will lead to identity theft. Like I said, you made my point. Thank you.

For someone who hates FB and its users, you certainly seem to know a lot about it. Seems like you spend more time on FB than you care to admit. If you think people’s posts are so foolish, then why spend so much time reading them? Admit it, you like being on FB.

You aren’t picking up on what I am putting down here.

I acknowledge FB. I acknowledge it is pervasive. I am in the voice in he wilderness that is telling you that only fools use it.

I note you stopped even trying to refute my arguments and just are saying “nya nya” and “you too” (ad hominem and Tu quoque, respectively).

I am warning people that FB is a huge and unnecessary exposure of you to evil elements.

Unless someone sends me a link that requires FB that piques my interest, I spend no time on FB — the time I spent proving my point is more time I have spent there than the total I have done in the last 6 or 7 months.

You can defend our foolishness all you want. The only one to be hurt will be you (and your family and friends).

I warn others to stay the heck off it and keep your Internet
footprint as small as possible.

Again, you accuse a cop of loving criminals because he understands them.

I will type slowly for you. People put their RL info on FB because they WANT to be found. They WANT to tell people who were their HS chums (pure idiocy in a different vein) so they post their grad year and HS name so they can “find” them and be “found.” They WANT people to know they have found not just ANY Ms. Murron but THE Ms. Murron that is you.

Very few are canny enough to realize how stupid that is. More people are stupid enough to reveal their RL data because they think an electronic connection substitutes for a real one.

The smart ones who lie are the ones who can do evil. Or to expose how evil can be done. I am the latter.

But continue your foolishness. When you are bereft, I shall shed no tears since I warned you.

I leave you all to your FB exposure. May the lotto continue to smile on you. Maybe the NSA and the ID thieves will pass over your house this and every night.

I shall continue to guard myself. Like all smart people.

I refuted your arguments a long time ago. No need on being redundant. You exposed yourself as a hypocrite, and I’ve called you on it and you don’t like it. Enjoy being a FB stalker.

Now you admit to being evil. Keep talking. You’re doing fine.

In your mind, maybe. On the thread - No.

I can’t help the terminally hard-of-understanding.

We are done here. Good day.

With that comment you went from terminally hard-of-understanding to prevaricator (and a bad one).

I do not waste my time on your kind.

Bye.

Wow, over 50 posts and no one has yet made the obligatory, yet douchey “What’s Facebook?” comment. I’m impressed.
