How many types of citizens are there? Natural, Naturalized, and Honorary. Where does Cruz fit in?

Is Cruz a Citizen? YES

Did he have to take a citizenship test? NO

Ergo he is Born a Citizen!

Eligible!

And might I add at no point did Ted Cruz ever claim he was from another country to get a sweatheart deal on tuition/scholarship ....

The same argument came up YEARS ago as related to the eligibility of George Romney (Mitt’s father), who was born in Mexico of American Mormon missionaries down there at the time. Was George Romney an American citizen? Yes.

A similar argument was raised concerning John McCain, also born of American parents, while they were stationed in the Canal Zone. Now technically, at the time, the Canal Zone WAS American territory, but the citizenship through patrimony is just as strong a claim as citizenship through territorial ties. The same holds true for children of US Servicemen born while stationed at any overseas post, or in fact of any person born of at least one valid American citizen, regardless of where they may actually be born, so long as the parents return to the US and establish residency once again.

Children born of LEGAL residents of the US, have a provisional US citizenship by right of place of birth, but if they choose to claim citizenship by blood ties to another country once they reach maturity, that is a de facto renunciation of claims to US citizenship.

Look it up. Sure, some band of high-powered lawyers con argue the fine points, but at one time, the letter of the law was quite clear and unambiguous.

Some idiots are trying top make a comparison with Jenny Granholm but Granholm was born in Canada to Canadian parents and remained in Canada till she was some 4 years old.

She didn’t even become a citizen of this country till she was an adult.

Possibly we’ve already had a Canadian president.

Chet Arthur, who was arguably born in Canada to a British father, who became a US citizen long after his birth, and an American mother.

IOW, pretty much the exact same situation as Cruz.

To be fair, nobody ever proved Arthur was born in Canada rather than Vermont, as he claimed. The issue was raised by his opponents, but it doesn’t appear the voters gave much of a damn.

A "Canadian" is closer to natural born than an Indonesian is.At least the Canadian born fellow has American citizenship. The Indonesian never rectified his own situation and is an illegal alien.

Birth theories and real or fake birth certificates are not relevant for the kenyan. He took Indonesian citizenship, via his parents, which required that his American citizenship be renounced. To be an American Citizen he must formally renounce his Indonesian citizenship and naturalize as an American citizen. He did not do that.Hi is an alien without a visa, an illegal alien.

Many freepers insist on a strict definition of “natural born” for politicians of whom they don’t approve but a very loose definition for people of whom they approve. It is very much a Left use of the law and language for putatively conservative goals.

He’s not Canadian.

That is absolutely true. He is also in no way a Natural-Born citizen of the USA.

Parents cannot renounce citizenship on behalf of minor children.

20 years ago I was involved with a case of just that. The kid ultimately had to go through the whole naturalization process when she turned 18.

if both his parents were us citizens, he is too. canada doesn’t give you citizenship just cause you fall out there. you get the citizenship of your parents.

I know we’ve had massive immigration in the last 40 or so years, but has it really become so difficult to find a candidate who was born in the flipping United States?!
