The government’s antitrust authorities have thrown a large road block in the way of the merger of American Airlines and US Airways, suing to block the deal.
The suit, filed by the Department of Justice after months in which the air carriers said they were confident that the deal would sail through anti-trust review, sent shares of US Airways tumbling Tuesday. The stock is down nearly 9% to $17.15 in recent trading.

More likely one of their unions called in a chip.
I doubt it, all of the US and AA employees I know we’re pleased with the merger plans. This is just more of Hussein hatred of success..
Reason:
(1) insufficient bribe to DNC or cronies
(2) somehow hurts DNC unions
or
(3) both.
Given this DOJ is little more than a political arm of the DNC used to attack political enemies, I have zero belief it is a legitimate complaint.
It’s Shakedown Time. Just like they did to Comcast and NBC. Maybe Al Sharpton, JayZ and P-Diddy will get their own airlines as part of the eventual settlement.
You confuse employees with unions.
Unions no more represent their employees than Obama represents white people.
Unions wanted the merger. I am glad it is being blocked. Non union employees wanted AA to go bankrupt and reorganize to break the union contracts that were way over the top.
After 120+ flights a year for over 26 years I can attest to the FACT US Air will contaminate any airline it partners with with some of the poorest customer service for a USA airline.
Sad to see AA fall into their cesspool. They were pretty good at one time. Now, not so much.
They didn’t pay off the right Democrats. Gotta pay, it’s the Chicago Way, now.

If you are right, one of those payoffs is surely coming to the local Allegheny County Democrat Party here in Pittsburgh.
They built a HUGE new airport in the 90’s on the promise that US Air would keep a hub here and provide thousands of local jobs. In return the local airport authority would protect them from discount competition.
Of course that plan did not survive first contact with economic reality.
Then 9-11 hit and non-passengers could no longer shop in the Air Mall. So now we have a ridiculously large, debt-ridden, largely empty airport, and a dearth of direct flights to anywhere.
Bailing out their local Democrats is no doubt going to be part of their To Do list here.
