“I grow tomatoes in 1 or 2 gallon pots all the time,”

Is that a large enough pot for a tomato to grow big? Don’t they take a larger container than that for the roots?

Well, many experts say no you need at least 5 gallons. The tomatoes I get don’t cover a whole slice of bread, but they are big enough for me to use in salads, salsa, tacos, and that half a sandwich I eat at lunch with soup.LOL

I have never tried to grow a big tomato like the mortgage lifter in pots. I like my tomatoes to be ones that I can just eat the whole thing with nothing left over.

Hubby likes the big ones, so he can just make one slice for the sandwich, then he sticks the rest in the refrigerator where it deteriorates rapidly and sometimes gets lost in the suffle.
