As I was settling in to read a 500 post thread, the gremlin came back.

Search ... searching users reverts to titles with no results while attempting to search users from this local. Titles have not run search.

Yes. Different threads load differently. Accessing through “My Comments” is spotty. Sometimes that takes me to the top of the thread instead of to mine.

For days I frequently get 404 Not Found. One time it lasted from evening until midday the next day. It’s gotten very bad. I have no idea why.

I think it is simple. there are lots of "freeloaders" who spend time here, but contribute little, to nothing. Plus, there are probably some deliberate attempts to hijack or damage this forum by forces of "evil".

FreeRepublic IS the best site for keeping abreast of the world in which we live. We can find topics to suit any taste, and news to inform and make your blood boil.

The money raised to keep this site afloat is just part of what makes it work. BUT, it is an absolutely necessary part. Without John getting our of his recliner and spending time working on these "glitches", we could see the site "shuttered". God forbid!

IMHO, we could go to a system of registration, with fees. I think access to view articles could still be allowed, but it would only allow users that register and PAY to post.

I know many would be averse to that principle, but try to get a Coke for free!

FWIW, the site appears to be back now!

The full pages are back up, good news.

But the 404 thing I doubt is FR, it happens frequently to me. Out in boonies, crappy internet speed, but I check my speed daily and it doesn’t seem related.

I’m too teeny for the NSA to mess with, so... I have no idea. When I can get on FR I open a lot of articles so I can read them.

And btw I do donate, so if you think I’m a freeloader, I ain’t. And I live in 15 grand a year, so my donations are not huge.
