Author Reza Aslan believes that Jesus probably lacked the education to read a book like the Bible. Or the Torah, or any other written text for that matter, no matter the language.
Aslans new book Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth is a revisionist take on the life of Jesus, arguing that his message of love was aimed more at a Jewish audience than a global one, that his attitude toward violence was far more complex than is generally thought, and that he was very likely illiterate.
All of these claims appear to be directly contradicted by passages in the New Testament, but Aslan argues those lines are mistaken, misinterpreted, or deliberately misleading.
Aslan, the author of the bestselling book No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam, was born in Iran and grew up a Muslim before converting to Christianity and then returning to Islam.

Is he kidding? The Son of God? Illiterate? Seriously?
They must be talking about the son of the moon god.
Our Lord was very familiar with scripture during the time of his ministry.
In fact, even as a child his knowledge of scripture was exceptional.
I’ve read the book, and its thesis has relevance to the current struggle between jihadist Islam and the West. The thesis is that Jesus was a zealot (small “z” to distinguish him from Josephus’s 4th philosophy) who advocated violent overthrow of political Rome and religious Temple Authorities; he was crucified for sedition.
This thesis is a reply to Pope Benedict XVI’s Regensberg Address, who argued that violence in the name of religion is irrational. Alsan, in essence, shouts back: “Hey, you Christians, how dare you criticize Islam for its origin and tradition of Violence, when your Messiah did the same?”
John 8:3-11
New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery; and making her stand before all of them, 4 they said to him, Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. 5 Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say? 6 They said this to test him, so that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her. 8 And once again he bent down and wrote on the ground.[a] 9 When they heard it, they went away, one by one, beginning with the elders; and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. 10 Jesus straightened up and said to her, Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you? 11 She said, No one, sir.[b] And Jesus said, Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again.]][c]
Interesting that a professor of CREATIVE WRITING, would know so much about Christ.
More po-mo deconstructionism. And just as vapid as the rest of it.
So he rejects evidence and does not believe. Take a number.
I'm just mystified about his alleged story of converting from islam to Christianity and then back again. To convert from islam to Christianity is in many cases a death sentence. Why would anyone attempt such a thing unless they were absolutely sure? Seems like a bizarre tall tale to me.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
What a fool!!
This coming from a man who faked his credentials.
Never mind that Jesus read in the temples.
It’s kind of hard to be illiterate when you are God, after all.
Seems to me as a kid he was teaching in the temple. And he makes reference to “it is written” several times. Educated rabbis are not unusual. Plus he surrounded himself with small businessmen, so my guess is they were not the town idiots.
Those who are historically illiterate might believe this idiot. Especially if they see themselves as oh-so-smart because they listen to NPR.
Was mohammed the mentally deficient son of a pig f’n dog? I believe he was. Piss be upon him.
“Yeah, I can so imagine Rachel Jeantel giving the Sermon on the Mount.”
More likely the “sermon on the blunt.”
I know one thing Jesus will not be reading. This guys name in the Book of Life.
The libs are also now furious with Shannon Bream at Fox for interviewing this author. Notice he’s labeld as a Muslim “scholar” while Shannon is a lowly reporter.
They called Jesus Rabbi—that means teacher. He knew his Torah and knew it well. As the firsst born son he would have been well educated and so were his half brothers James and Jude (or they may have been his brothers from another union—depending on your religion). This joker doesn’t know his facts. Being the son of God maybe he was given the power to read by God—Hey—Mohammed didn’t have education but—according to the Koran—Allah gave him the gift of reading and writing! If he could do it for old Mo—he would do it for Prophet/Son Jesus?
Joseph possessed the royal bloodline of David, and Mary possessed the bloodline of Aaron, so Jesus was eligible to be a priest-king. It is highly unlikely that he was illiterate and uneducated.
JESUS will deal with this soul directly... this muslim will stand before GOD for his evil.
LLS
I don't think any Muslim disbelieves that Mohamed took a child bride.
They seem rather proud of it, in fact.
