Belonging

August 9, 2013

My dad was full of stories about his hometown. So you can imagine how excited I was as a child when he took our family there every summer. We fished the St. Joseph River together and visited his boyhood farm where all of his stories came to life. Although that place was never really my home, whenever I visit that town—now with grown children and grandchildren of my own—it fills me with a nostalgic sense of belonging.

Jesus talked with His disciples about His home in heaven, which He left to come and live among us. What a joy it must have been for Him to tell His disciples, “In my Father’s house are many mansions . . . . I go to prepare a place for you, . . . that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:2-3). No doubt Jesus, “who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross” (Heb. 12:2), was looking forward to returning to His heavenly home and taking His Father’s sons and daughters there to be with Him.

The thought of Jesus taking us to His Father’s home fills us with great anticipation and compels us to tell others the good news about the Son who came to rescue us from this fallen place.

Now I belong to Jesus;
Jesus belongs to me—
Not for the years of time alone,
But for eternity. —Clayton
Only Jesus can fill us with a sense of belonging like we’ve never known before.

Read: John 14:1-11

In my Father’s house are many mansions . . . . I go to prepare a place for you. —John 14:2

Thank you, TCP! When I’m sitting down, my back doesn’t hurt but you can’t get anything done sitting down! Some days its worse than others so I have to try to be thankful for the days it doesn’t hurt, I guess. I just get so behind in my work though. Just have to deal with it as it comes and goes.

Hope all is well with you! (((HUGS)))

Polly, its so good to see you here at Amy’s. We miss you when you stay away too long but we all have to take time off to get caught up on everything.

Thank you for your concerns about my back. It comes and goes and of course, hurts worse when I’m up and trying to do my work, so I do a little at a time.

So good ‘seeing’ you again and hope all is well with you and your family. Have a wonderful day today!!

We are so glad you discovered this thread and very happy you like it. Hope you keep coming back. Some days this thread is really busy and other days its slow but that’s just natural, I guess.

Anyway, we are so glad to have you when you can come. I have to stay away a few days now and then and have done that recently. I have a lot on my plate today so I don’t know how much time I’ll spend here today.

Come back soon and often! Wishing you a great day!

St. Augustine is a wonderful place. Hubby and I spent most of our vacations at Myrtle Beach, especially when the kids were growing up. But we have been to St. Augustine a few times and its so quiet and wonderful (after busy Myrtle Beach)

A couple of times we just sorta toured some places in Florida that we wanted to see and St. Augustine was one we visited more than once. I loved vacations like that. Sure miss those wonderful days but today I wouldn’t be able to do all the walking you must do to see everything. I am so grateful for the vacations we did take yearly. Our kids say they have such great memories of those times. We were very lucky in those days to take our vacations.

I got rave reviews from Dolly and Mary Lou, too, on St Augustine.
I am so happy my Navy grandson and his wife will be near such a wonderful place,..I fear orders to deploy for him will be coming soon, though.

Jaycee... I notice my back really stresses when I stand and iron, or vacuum. There was a day these activities were part of my normal routine. HA... now those chores on done on a limited basis.

After 18 months in a Boy’s Home Facility, our grandson returned home to once again live with us last week. He will turn 15 next week. SOoooooooo life begins in the fast lane for the Pollywog family.

Definitely needing the calm of Amy’s Place!

It was one of five places I visited on that very difficult day.

The first was a coffee plantation where I had a fish sandwich and some fabulous Kona Coffee.

Then I drove down to Kealakakua Bay, viewed the Captain Cook Monument, and the site of the first Christian Service in the Hawaiian Islands.

Then I went to City of Refuge National Park, an amazingly beautiful and spiritual place.

Then I went to the Botanical Meditation Garden where I took that picture of the hibiscus.

And finally, I visited the Painted Church, uphill from the Botanical Garden.

It was a day of healing and comfort, with just a little bit of adventure and hiking thrown in.

Yes it was a lot...

But the cool thing is that all of those magnificent heretage sites are all on one road off the main highway.

One , twisty, turny, one lane ,hilly, potholed road down the hill.

Next time I would like to do it on a Harley.

Or maybe a HORSE! :-)

Thank you Meg. You may not remember but he was suicidal and depressed, which led to him being violent a year a half ago. He suffered from severe abuse as a child, before he came to live with us.
His behaviors about sent me under emotionally.
He has matured and is doing so much better.
He will start Christian School next week and we pray so that it will be a good experience for him.
He will be with former friends.
