Eight-ton orca leaps 15ft into the air to finally capture dolphin

The dolphin was originally part of a small group swimming off the Mexican coast But the others managed to get away - leaving it at the mercy of a whole pod of whales With the setting sun just beginning to turn the sky pink, a killer whale leaps out of the ocean and soars into the air, spray cascading down in its wake.

Off topic but while searching YOUTUBE for killer whales I came across this lovely little clip of an encounter with a sperm whale set to lovely music.

I didn’t “like” the way the whale kept opening his mouth when near humans but I see that one of the comments thought the whale was smiling!

To me, the description of the hunt makes the killer whales sound like they are giant swimming ......cats?

Comments like yours always remind me of the story a few years back that detailed a planned elk hunt in Yellowstone that was being conducted to cull the herd of diseased animals that had the potential to kill off the entire herd.

If I remember right, a couple of animal rights fanatics attempted to hike in from the other end of the valley to disrupt the shoot and scatter the herd, but on the way they were mauled by a grizzly.

I can't help but shake my head when I'm reminded of their self inflicted demise.
