GREENSBORO Six teens were arrested or cited Thursday night after a gun was fired near downtown Greensboro among a large group of teens. There were also fights breaking out amongst the group.
Those charged or cited Thursday included:
Kenyon C. Jordan, 20, charged with carrying a concealed gun and discharging a firearm inside the city limits;
George McCoy, 16, charged with affray;
Steven Lloyd, 16, cited for disorderly conduct;
Shyquan Chavis, 16, cited for assault on a law enforcement officer and resist, delay and obstruct a law enforcement officer.
Two juveniles were charged on juvenile referrals for disorderly conduct. Officers were called to St. John's Lodge at 1107 E. Market St. about 11:30 p.m. after a gun was fired, according to police. Officers saw about 200 teens leave the building.
As people were leaving the building, someone began firing a gun into the air, according to police.
Additional police came to help with crowd control and to find the person firing the gun.
Police said no one was injured.
Officers detained three people for firing the gun, and Jordan was ultimately charged. Officers seized the gun.
Fights continued to break out among the group as it moved along East Market Street, police said. The crowd broke up about 1 a.m.
The area where the crowd was located is outside the area where teens are prohibited after 11 p.m. due to a city-mandated curfew. The eastern boundary for Market Street only extends to Church Street. St. John's Lodge is near South Dudley Street.
At city council's meeting to discuss implementing a curfew, Councilwoman Nancy Vaughan expressed concern that if teens were kept out of downtown, they would gather in other parts of the city and cause the same types of problems.
Judging by what was left out of the story (pictures, descriptions) and the location of the activity, it's pretty easy to guess what flavor of "angry teens" these are.
“Shyquan” has to be Amish.
Let’s see....
Kenyon - Borderline, but ok.
George - Ok
Steven - Ok
Shyquan - DING DING DING DING DING!
Sounds like this is a case of Amish Rumspringa.
Several of their names tell you everything you need to know.
Obama wants his riots so bad.
Is Obama going to instigate riots every summer until he leaves the White House? Rhetorical question.
I’d bring each kid in and suspend their license for 90 days, and hint that a second offense would cause a 180-day suspension. Then I’d bring their parents in and ask them if their kids can be managed. If they can’t....I’d ship their kids off to some Army-style bootcamp for six weeks.
Oh, and the comments have been disabled so that the residents who are in the know cannot fill in the gaps.
What is affray?
In fact, I don't go downtown anymore for anything, ever. Can't remember the last time I was there. I just don't think that it's safe.
After losing a lot of industry (textiles), GSO's downtown tried to recover maybe 10 years or so ago by appealing to a younger, upper-scale crowd. Lots of bars, restaurants, theater, clubs, etc etc etc.
Eventually the "youths" in this article moved in, and brought their violence with them.
People that I work with used to go downtown for the clubs, etc, all the time. Now, they go elsewhere. GSO is at the beginning of a rapid downhill slide, IMO. I give it 5-6 years, maybe less.
Shyquan?
Are any of these names real? or do they just ‘sound’ african?
There weren't nearly as many arrests or shootings at it, as there were last night. More people too. :-)
A proper police response to an “unruly assembly” like this can now be to arrest the entire mob.
Technology now provides a means to do so. There are now commercially available surfactants that can be sprayed on both asphalt and concrete, that make them too slick to walk across. This means that in an urban situation, where the only exits are on streets or through buildings, it could take far fewer police to arrest the entire mob.
Once deployed, with cops on the streets and covering the exits of buildings, the mob literally has to leave on their hands and knees. They cannot overwhelm the police with sheer numbers.
And this is not a theoretical technique, either. After the Rodney King riots, the LAPD obtained a number of 55 gallon drums of this kind of surfactant for just that purpose.
Suspend their license for what? Are they licensed drug dealers? As if suspending that license would bother them. Wild feral animals won’t care one whit about suspending anything. You think Daddy’s going to open a can of whoop-ass on them for misbehaving?
Fighting.
That is a Prince Hall Masonic Lodge. (almost all black members) The Regular Lodge by that name is in Wilmington. Names are not the same. The one in Wilmington is "St. Johns" (plural with no apostrophe)
Whatcha call your devolution.
The new Greensboro Four:
Kenyon C. Jordan, 20, charged with carrying a concealed gun and discharging a firearm inside the city limits;
George McCoy, 16, charged with affray;
Steven Lloyd, 16, cited for disorderly conduct;
Shyquan Chavis, 16, cited for assault on a law enforcement officer and resist, delay and obstruct a law enforcement officer.
Nobody got hurt.
Nobody got arrested.
Funny thing ...
His “profession” is “community organizer”. Community organizer=professional rabble rouser. Rousing the rabble is what he does.
George McCoy, black male, 16 years old, was arrested and charged with Affray.
Steven Lloyd, black male, 16 years old, was cited and released for Disorderly Conduct.
Shyquan Chavis, black male, 16 years old, was cited and released for Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Resist, Delay, and Obstruct a Law Enforcement Officer.
