Cowboys Owner: At Least 1 NFL Team Could Come To LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Could the city of Los Angeles be getting at least one NFL team?

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones apparently thinks so: he told reporters at the Cowboys training camp in Oxnard last weekend that the league’s return to L.A. is “closer than ever,” according to NFL.com.

Jones, a California native, said a move for at least one NFL team could be “imminent.”

“It’s more imminent than any time since we haven’t had a team in Los Angeles,” Jones told NFL.com. “And yes, this market is a huge market. It’s a little bit of a black eye for all of us to have had this many years and not had an NFL team in Los Angeles.”

While he wouldn’t speculate on any potential teams that may be considering the move, Jones downplayed the possibility of league expansion.

“There won’t be any expansion, so it will be teams that move,” he said.

CBS2 Sports Director Jim Hill reported last month that league sources believe former Dodgers owner Frank McCourt’s involvement with any deal could hinder efforts to bring back pro football to the city.

St Louis already told the Rams they wouldn’t upgrade Edward Jones Dome, which means that the Rams could legally break their lease and move....that’s why I think it’s almost a done deal that the Rams will return to LA.

What about where the Los Angeles(Anaheim)(California) Angels play can this be used a a Football Stadium?

Not anymore. It was reconfigured into a baseball-only park a couple of years after the Rams left.

so, St. Louis is planning to use the Edward Jones Dome as the world’s largest flea market or something?

I’m sure they can host a tractor pull or two, like the Pontiac Silverdome.

Wrigley Field(Chicago) was “configured” a couple of years ago as a “Football” Field for a “Big 10” Game(Northwestern V sombody I think). Made “Kind-Of” a “Neat” FB “Field”.

What about Hamilton?

A) Nobody knows where that is.

B) They may not have the money to spend.

C) Too close to Detroit, maybe?

When they played that Wrigley Field game both teams only ran plays towards one end. One end zone ran smack dab into the brick outfield wall and it was deemed “unsafe”.

Ohio Could send them a pro football team but I don’t think the Buckeyes would want to move.

About midway between Buffalo and Toronto. A few hours out of Detroit.

I wonder if people in Buffalo would just become Steelers fans, then?

Fans in Florida tend to be more fair-weather fans.

Except for the occasional hurricane and more frequent thunder storms Florida has an abundance of fair weather. The fan base have to be wimps ... ask any NFL fan who attends late season games in Buffalo, Cleveland, Chicago, Green Bay, Denver.

The Rams are headed back to LA. They are at an impasse with St. Louis. Lease is up in 2014 and they can go year to year in St. Louis until a new LA stadium is built.

Exactly.

It’s kind of a play on “The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.”

Could yes, will not. The LA threat is too powerful. Almost every team in the league has gotten a new or refurbed stadium since LA became empty, and some of them are old enough that the teams are starting to gripe about them. The lack of a team in LA is a license to get taxpayer money.

It ain’t about the weather. Heck even when they’re good, the Dolphins rarely sell out.

Ditto.
I would’ve bet the Vikes but Minnesota caved in and wote a blank check to the team owners.
