Staff on one of the world's most luxurious cruise lines hid more than 15 trolleys of food in cabins to try to avoid it being seen by health protection officers, according to a report into a sudden inspection carried out on board Silversea's Silver Shadow in June.
The damning report claimed staff had tried to hide cooked and raw food, including raw meat, cheeses and vegetables as well as kitchen equipment in over 10 cabins shared by two or three galley crew members.
Health inspection officers working for the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, who'd boarded the ship for a surprise inspection, poured concentrated chlorine liquid over all the discarded foods to make sure it wouldn't be eaten.
...
The ship failed the inspection, scoring 82 points, just three points below the required 85 for a 'satisfactory' rating.

Have you seen Staff cabins ,I mean closets
No, but having spent seven years on submarines I’ll bet they’re luxurious.
i had been thinking about using them for Alaska.
Cross one of my list
I bet they are (compaired to submarines!!!)
I toured a sub that is harbored here in Buffalo- there were 10 of us on a tour through it, and it seemed cramped- when he told me it held a crew of 30 and would be under water for months at a time I almost freaked!!
I can’t imagine how you do it, my man- you got bigger balls than I have.
We should have these guys look for those people no one can find from Benghazi. And these inspectors carry around bottles of concentrated chlorine bleach? Send them to Syria!
Devastating PR to a top tiered Cruise Line.. I’m guessing this is not an inside job known only to a few crew.. The Chef and management would have to know this, the food is inventoried.. This is a stupid move on so many levels.. As a professional, I am applauded to here this...
Come Ralph with us......
I'm headed for Alaska Saturday morning, taking a cruise ship out of Vancouver up to (near) Anchorage.
Had to read the article to make sure it's not the cruise line I'm taking!
Why didn’t they just put it back in the refrigerator?
That you get applauded in of itself is appalling, where ever it happens.
I here what you’re saying.
where ever, lol
“Come Ralph with us...... “
And that’s exactly what I’d do. I get seasick bobbing for apples.
Bleach?
I know you are kidding, or you very wealthy. They are amongst the expensive cruise lines in the world.
I have always found Princess Cruise line to be very fairly priced for what you get. A higher than average product at a modest price.
Have a great time. Alaska is the most popular cruise destination in the world. Every day, there are 6-7 ships that depart Seattle/Vancouver for Alaska or the other way around.
This trip is my wife's birthday present. She's been wanting to go for several years now, the past few I've had some health issues that have preventing me from going.
When we booked this trip back in January, it was with the hope that I'd be healthy enough to make it. I'm literally counting the hours until we board the plane to Vancouver........
