Obama - If You Feel Threatened By Being Followed, Then Maybe Under SYG Laws You Can Shoot!

Did I really just hear Obama suggest that armed young black men may shoot anyone watching or following them, if that makes them feel threatened, in Stand Your Ground states?
Here's what he said today:
"And for those who resist that idea that we should think about something like these stand your ground laws, I just ask people to consider if Trayvon Martin was of age and armed, could he have stood his ground on that sidewalk? And do we actually think that he would have been justified in shooting Mr. Zimmerman, who had followed him in a car, because he felt threatened?"
It's not only ignorant and offensive that he'd make this ridiculous comparison, but also, given the tinderbox of irrational outrage which currently exists over this verdict, it's outright dangerous to make the comments he made. Yes, others have said this too, but he should know better. SYG has the same criteria as self-defense with regard to the fact that one must be reasonably in fear of great bodily harm or death before deadly force may be used, and anyone with a brain should know that simply being followed or watched by someone would not provide any legal justification for using deadly force. In fact it's not a justification for using any force.
But now our president may have just put it into the minds of some young angry protestors that racial justice would demand that they also be protected by SYG laws if they shoot someone for watching or following them. Okay, sure, he meant it in a sarcastic way to try to make the legitimate use of SYG laws seem wrong by this ridiculous comparison. But the young, angry, low-information, I-am-Trayvon-Martin protestors may not make that distinction, and could possibly interpret this as a call to arms!
Breathtakingly stupid and outrageous, and I hope someone takes him to task for that comment very soon.

I posted this as a comment to another thread, but I thought it deserved a thread of its own.

Every word that comes out of that viper’s mouth is some transmogrification of a half-truth.

I would like to point out that Trayvon Martin DID “stand his ground”, by beating the cracker out of the guy who was following him.

it’s clear obama has no understanding of syg, or does and is just lying about it.
the “threatened” isn’t just anxiety or nervousness or irritation. the “threatened” is is fear for your life or grave bodily injury. There has to be something reasonable people would see as denoting that. Being followed by someone is not that level. Having someone on top of you punching you in the face and slamming your head on the sidewalk, is.

Lets be honest here.
Obama is pushing all the buttons, to start a race war.
He wants one.
He is pushing for a full on civil war in this country, so that he can twist the last screws in his fundamental change of this country.
He will declare martial law and burn what's left of our constitution.
Laws will be what he decides and enacted as how he deems.

OK, that statement does cross the line from a black racist doing normal grievance mongering to a Marxist trying to start a race war so that he can declare martial law

No he didn't. Since watching or following someone in a public space is not any kind of justification for using any force under any SYG statute, then what Martin did that night was simply a criminal assault.

I think that this is all part of the plan. For some reason these people are terrified of the Stand Your Ground laws. Think about it, if they can get a whole bunch of cases into court that use SYG incorrectly then they can get the courts to overturn the SYG laws entirely.
So... Tell me what is it that terrifies them or at least bugs them about SYG?
My own feeling is that they see these laws interfering with some action they have planned in the future. If so... What is that action?

DFSOBSnort, took me second to figure that out.
You're correct though, both in the acronym as well as the conclusion.

I think with these comments Obama has every desire to have a race war begin in this country. I never thought I’d see a president advocating for a race war.
He knows just being followed, by itself, is not the level of fearing for one’s life. Technically if you are walking behind someone you are following them whether you’re following them on purpose or not.
Zimmerman had followed Trayvon, lost him, and then went out looking for the closest street sign to meet with officers. Then got attacked (got his ass whooped - Jeantel) and defended himself. That is not him defending himself for no reason.
He is deliberately trying to start a race war. This man should be removed from office. He is a clear and present danger to the United States of America. He is trying to institute rebellion and anarchy in this country. On purpose. To foment insurrection. To cause disruption and to continue his assault on the 2nd Amendment and those citizens who a gun owners and ccw holders.

In effect, that is exactly what Travon Martin did, he resorted to deadly force with his fists and cement probably because he had left his gun into Miami gardens. It cost him his life which he forfeited because he committed the crime of assault. The innuendo to the effect that George Zimmerman committed any crime or committed any act which justified a reaction by Travon Martin is outrageous. To imply that Travon Martin might have had a right to "stand his ground" and began shooting borders on the criminal.
Obama is behaving disgracefully. His demagoguery is all the more vicious because he is, or claimed to be, a visiting lecturer in constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law school. For the president the United States and a pedagogue of his alleged pedigree to misstate the facts and so distort a hypothetical in this manner is so grotesque that it is contemptuous of his audience, the good name of George Zimmerman, and the law.

I heard the Pres. say as a yute he could have been Trayvon. And that brought up an image of Obama in a hoodie, mixing up a DMX and counting the looted jewelry on his bed.
Then I can see Obama in the fog of night drizzle, turn and attack the citizen on neighborhood watch.
Oh, wait!!! He’s gangsta’d up, choomed up and stole from the citizens. He’s mugged us all with his various crack-pot solutions to fringe element complaints.
Yep, as a yute, he could have been Trayvon.

They hate syg because it allows people to stand up to criminals attacking them. Once you see the demographics of violent criminals and murderers, you will know why he’s trying to shut it down.
to wit - it allows too many black criminals to be killed in self defense.

The only way it would have been “Stand Your Ground” for Martin is if Zimmerman had threatened or attacked. We know he did neither.
