I think the hinge was attached to the handle and to the cover.

Is that your question - what sort of hinge was used ?

Nowadays, most folks just use a hot water bottle to keep their feet warm.

But beware: if they are too hot, they can cause severe burns, which is why hospitals have temperature controlled wet heating pads.

the “bed warmer” was placed in the bed or passed over the sheets so that the sheets were not ice cold when you got into bed. It was not left in the bed.

as for hinges: most of them seem to have a simple single hinge...

You can buy some on ebay.

you want to be able to flip the top all the way back not just vertical, it sounds like. i don’t know why that’s so hard to find for you. any hardware store.

Like the other responders, I’m not quite sure what you want.

Consider attaching the hinge to the center of the top rather than the edge. Imaging an arm that reaches to the center handle.
