Man dies after attempting backflip at beach

An Austin man died after hitting his head while trying to do a backflip near the lakeshore in the Gold Coast neighborhood, authorities said.

Terrence Mauldin was with his 23-year-old nephew when he attempted a backflip off a three-foot-high retaining wall south of North Avenue Beach around 7:20 p.m., police said. Mauldin landed head-first on the concrete, according to police.

My father used to do this, just standing on the ground into a backflip. He could also do forward flips, which he said are more difficult actually. He could also go from a handstand and curl into an ‘L’ on the ground, then back up to a handstand. Impressive stuff. Okay.. Enough. LOL But he wouldn’t let me try it unless he could ‘spot’ me and warned not to try it without a spotter right next to me.

All Concrete sidewalks must now have “Health Warning Signs” painted, every 10 feet, alternating in each direction so as they can be read, in both directions of travel. Health warning should state “Sidewalk is meant for feet. Applying to head, even second hand by other individuals, can be dangerous to your health and limit your survival”
Must be in Block Letters because not everyone can read Cursive. Paint can be any color but white.
