Human beings have always seen unidentified objects in the sky. From the prophet Ezekiels sighting of a flying wheel in 593 B.C., to the 1561 A.D. Battle over Nuremberg, Germany, to Kenneth Arnolds pie plate UFOs spotted near Mt. Rainer, Washington, in June 1947, there are things above our heads that baffle us.
Many of these unidentified flying objects appear to be intelligently controlled aircraft. Others, like the following sightings in California and Illinois, defy explanation.

Often the imagination of men defies reason, imagination is infectious, men see what they want to see, to wit: the Zimmerman case.
That is one of the most oblique insults to freepers who have experienced one or more UFOs I believe I have ever read at Freerepublic.
Why were the people at the beginning of the Superman show so excited about a bird or a plane in the sky?
You are absolutely correct. How people see things is often a manifestation of their own minds.
But that only raises the question: what was it they saw which was so outside of ordinary experience that their minds had to explain it to them with more familiar imagery?

That brings to mind another question that has been asked many times over the years:
How come Superman just stands there smiling as the bad guy fires six shots at him from point blank range, but then ducks when the bad guy throws his empty gun at him?
That’s pretty much true especially if you are extremely tired.
You see what you want to see, or worse you can see what you really don’t want to see.
Hilarious! As many times as I’ve seen that opening, that never occurred to me.
My husband and I were amazed. Were just regular people who saw something strange one day and still cant reconcile that thing with our logical minds,
This common type of statement by someone who has had a sighting is indicative of the ability to realize and overcome the natural tendency to 'explain away' an unusual observation.
Humans try to make everything fit into their idea of reality as a method of coping. The oddity of such reports triggers a defense of their version of reality, it is a threat and the tendency is to lash out to remove it from their world.
For those who can't accept the possibility of something they can't understand, I truly feel sorry for them. They are living in fear.
