Perhaps you will say that my health insurance is cheap compared to its obligations. Then let's have that debate publicly instead of the discussion of how I am a public leach sponging off of everybody else's hard work and sweat.

I’m torn on this. I know a person that might be on the hook for a $13K med bill that was supposed to be covered by Medicare. Medicare is saying the stay in a nursing home is not covered. This person and their spouse have received probably in the hundreds of thousands of medical over the years...including many doctor visits, nursing home stays, hospital stays, and operations. They were guaranteed this, but everything is for “free” and expected to be for “free”. And our country is broke. Personally, I’d much rather the country continue to take care of the old folks and cut off the real blood suckers in this country, but there’s going to have to be some kind of reform and there’s no one with the balls, desire, fortitude, and mind out there to get it done. The Dems certainly have no desire...they want more people dependent.

Would you mind supplying the quotes from Rush’s transcripts to support your argument, please? Personally, I haven’t heard Limbaugh say anything along those lines (leeches) about MediCARE recipients, unless it was a slip of the tongue when he was meaning MediCAID. I have heard him in the past question SSDI and Medicare Disability in the past. According to CNS News, there is a record 10,978,040 people drawing Social Security Disability (more than the total population in 43 states). Why is Medicare being drained? It’s not from the retirees. Look no farther than the epidemic of disability.

Wow! It has been awhile since you had private insurance, hasn’t it?

We pay $356 monthly for the family plan that has a set group of providers (Unlike Medicare) and if we go outside that group they only pay 50%.

Yeah, some people deserve and need medicare. Others are leaches that have sucked off the teat of this country and that is the ones Rush bashes.

$1,200/yr? That’s a bargain, IMO.

Geisinger Single Payer for me is $6,000/yr with $2,500 deductible. When I had my Family Farm Business, the group policy was $3,000/yr w/ $500 deductible, per person, for 5+ participants. I closed 11/1/11, after 22yrs.

I’d love to have that back.

FReepers pay $1,200 a year for their medical insurance? Probably some do; likely most do not. I am not complaining about paying for my health care - I voluntarily and happily pay the premium.

We are paying more than that a month ($15,864 year). This does not include deductibles and copays.

Why do you think my premiums are so high? Can you say medicare cost shifting?

No sympathy, but a great deal of loathing when it comes to your post.

By the way, my Wife and I have had medicare deductions from our pay for the past 38 years on top of our insurance payments. In my case you can add self-employment deductions at 100% because of AMT.

Rush was right and you are just wrong.

How many FReepers pay $1,200 a year for their medical insurance?

Not me. Between my employer and I, we pay about 10x that. Are you trying to make a case for me to feel sorry for you? 'Cause you're failing.

Can it be privatized and be self-funding?

If so then lets do that and it will no longer be political.

You appear to be saying Rush doesn't understand just because we have to be on Medicare, we don't pay any money at all for our care - we are freeloading.

Medicare takes $1,198.80 a year out of my Social Security for health insurance. They take out $529.20 a year for my drug coverage. My supplemental insurance to pay for what Medicare doesn't, costs me $3,240 a year. That is a total of $4,968.00 a year I pay for health care and medicine, except I also pay a part of the cost of the medicine and I haven't added that up.

Rush does not know of which he speaks to say we pay nothing. Perhaps he will pay for me that $4,968.00 and my part of the medicine I also pay, so I will actually have free health care.

WE PAY to have Medicare (our only choice if 65 or older)to have doctor/hospital insurance, and WE PAY for the supplement insurance and WE PAY for the drug policy and WE PAY for the cost of medicine over what our policy pays.

$100 a month is really cheap. I’m in my 60’s, not on MediCare, and pay $412 a month for catastrophic coverage (I can only get reimbursed when medical costs go over $10,000 a year).

I’m paying almost $500.00 a MONTH, with a $3000.00 yearly deductable and 20% co-pay.

So, I guess the answer is, no, I do not pay $1,200.00 a year.

I pay $273.05 per pay period (twice per month) for my health insurance. That works out to $546.10 per month and $6553.20 per year. This is a mid level plan for my family of four. In addition, I paid $2243.52 last year into Medicare.

You are obviously getting subsidized health care, yet you bitch about how much you pay and about people who point out that you are getting a huge assist.

Think about it. I paid MORE for Medicare that you do, the difference being that you get coverage and all I get is a bill.

I wish I could feel your pain, but my pain is so much greater that it makes yours seem like a scratch.

I pay $1800 / year for private insurance. Like Social Security, Medicare was never envisioned to look like it does today. People are living far longer than SS envisioned and medical technology was prehistoric in 1964. Current medicare recipients should keep it. Like SS, there should be an age established that transitions to private programs. If you don’t like Rush, don’t listen. Re farmers: Archer Daniels Midland ain’t a farmer. Govt farm programs are corporate welfare.

They could cancel medicare, you could save that $100 bucks and month then pay the Obama tax for not having coverage.

That would be a hoot.

Your premium nowhere covers the cost of the coverage. In fact, I've read that Medicare recipients, between payroll deduction and premiums, cover only 25% of the cost of the insurance.

I could search for it, but I'm lazy...

Interesting take, Bob.

From my point of view, MediCare is the best deal going on. My premiums are also around $100 monthly, plus secondary and prescription coverage.

Here’s the deal - health premiums outside of MediCare are much higher and it’s not just the profit element. The cost of services under MediCare exceed the premiums with seniors needing more and more services as they grow older. Having those on MediCare pay, for example, a fee to visit a Doctor would discourage visits in some cases and reduce costs overall. MediCare is simply too good a deal to survive, long term.

Actually, MediCare has no funds - money paid in has been spent and the funds that are paid in by younger workers is being spent by our generation. Basically, those that are paying in now will end up with nothing to draw from unless funds are taken from general tax revenue. MediCare is just another federal ponsi scheme, like Social Security.

I’m with Rush on this.

Medicare is bankrupt. Most of us would LOVE to pay only $1,200 a year for a 80/20 plan.

Most of us pay FAR MORE than that today.

Having to pay a little more isn’t a crime.

Maybe if they’d quit giving away so much in Medicaid, then they wouldn’t bring this bill up.

How many FReepers pay $1,200 a year for their medical insurance?

Most people I know pay way more for individual polices-our $10,000 deductible is $1500.00 a MONTH for the 4 of us, thanks to Obamacare, and my having had a malignant mole removed a few years back. Can't get covered at all on other plans, I've tried. THe state pre-existing plans provided under Obamacare are more than that.

You maybe have always worked for a school district or a large company and had your insurance subsidized, and you have no idea what the individual market is like out there. Under Obama care, even a young healthy adult like my 22 yo pays $120/ month, or $ 1440/ year.
