UPDATED: Universal's 3D animated event pic grosses $4.7 million, compared to $2 million for Disney's big-budget action-adventure.
Universal's Despicable Me 2 left The Lone Ranger in the dust on Tuesday night as both films opened at the North American box office on the eve of the long July 4th holiday stretch.

Note to movie studios: make stuff people want to see! Movie goers didn't want to see a Will Smith Scientology epic and movie goers didn't want to see a creepy Johnny Depp parade around in drag with a dead bird on his head.

Don’t tell me let me guess, the Indian is the smart one who solves the mystery while the White guy is an idiot.

I guess it's debatable if "Hatfields & McCoys" is a western but if not a western it's close and it was quite well done. I understand it is entirely factual.
It was made for TV and is a mini-series so it's a good 2 nights' entertainment. Available on Netflix.

That’s a fair point. I enjoyed that, too. Not sure it’s a western, though. Horses and time period notwithstanding.

I saw the movie last night. Actually, the white guy had integrity, justice, and the rule of law. The indidan wanted revenge ... if you want to delve down into the political meaning of everything.
Hey... it was a funny movie. It was really good. It wasn't the Lone Ranger I grew up watching. No doubt. But nothing is going to roll back the hands of time for us.
It was just a fun movie that several of us in our 50's enjoyed.

You gotta admit.... the clothes the old Lone Ranger wore looked like something Jack Lalanne would have worn.
