Coffee by its very nature is hot. Most places have it upwards of 180 degrees or so as the machines make things that hot.

The woman put the coffee cup, paper cup mind you between her knees an pulled the lid off. Sorry faulty thinking right there ... paper cup, between knees, hot coffee. McDonald’s didn’t tell her to do it that way. She brought on her own problem.

I can see it now ... Surgeon General warings on hot coffee/drinks and hot food over a specific tempreture. say 130 degrees or 150 degrees maybe even 98 degrees.

Sorry, my feelings. Frivilous lawsuit and one of the reasons we have so much trouble these days. The 90’s was a time when we really started becoming a ‘litigeous society’ ... one that loves to sue for anything. That is also a reason tort reform is desperately needed.

Basically one more reason why our society and by extension our country is on a downhill slope. Liberal mentality that everyone must be taken care of by someone else, even for theirown mistakes.

I know all the yuck yuck jokes on how coffee is SUPPOSED to be hot, but McDonald’s has been known to ignore inspector’s warning on their temp on coffee.

There is “hot” coffee and there is “boiling liquid.” McDonald’s can’t seem to get the two apart.

The coffee lawsuit from several years back is an example of just that. That location had been warned at least four times that the temp of their coffee was at almost boiling level. The woman suffered second or third degree burns which is NOT the normal coffee temp.

So not assuming this guy is stupid. We don’t know the extent of his burns.

The reason I know this is because we studied it in a continuing education class for my insurance license. It was on frivolous lawsuits, and we were all surprised to find this out because all thought it was a silly suit too. Then we learned the facts.

That’s because, like most Freepers, only read the headlines and didn’t hear the case.

Everyone is looking for something for nothing.

They've combined Situational Ethics with some hard feelings about unjust things the Crony Capitalists have gotten away with, and constructed a new fake ethos where "stickin' it to the man" is allright.

Should have had cold coffee - might have frozen his brain.

I thought it was the McDonald's on San Mateo SE just south of Central Ave. near the university. But I looked up the case and it was the one on 5001 Gibson SE. So much for memory eh? I guess I remembered it as the San Mateo McDonald's because that's the one I frequented. I was living in ABQ when that happened.

At any rate I didn't think she had a case then and I still don't but one difference between her situation and this guy's is that she was in a car at the drive-thru window and apparently this guy was sitting inside at a table.

Every such cup I’ve ever seen plainly say “Caution.Extremely Hot” on them.Of course that wouldn’t prevent a jury with a collective IQ of 50 from awarding 50 million.

Many fast food joints have a “Mr. X” to check the service and compliance of the franchisees to corporate guidelines. At A&W, he expects the coffee to be at 180* when he sits down with his order.

My mom was in the industry for a long time, and recruited me for various odd tasks. Yes,I did wear that silly suit too...

I was misinformed, apparently.

Well, it’s in Albuquerque, anyway.

A search informed me that there are 28 Mickey D's in ABQ ... and I will skip them all. lol

If you're going to go to ABQ I recommend The Pioneer or Golden Pride. Both are local franchises of the same restaurant and have excellent food at good prices. Try the giant sticky buns as well as the numerous green chile based dishes. ;-)

HOLD ON THERE MCBUCKO..would it be impossible for Macs to institute a 2 step procedure to prevent the occurance of MCTRAGEDYS such as THESE?...

1.Mcordertaker must question each customer at the first window asking her age and skin condition.

THEN

2. Mcordordertaker must brew up a specially Mccool cup of coffee for each potential burnee ....hell, it might take 15-20 min per exception but....the pain it’d prevent to the occasional crispy old MCLady would certainly be worth the MCTrouble....

3. MCPROBLEM SOLVED
