Patek-Phillipe or Brueget would be my suggestion. But I just use my iPhone.
All depends upon what you’re going to be doing with it. For basic ease you can’t beat the solar powered g-shock with an atomic clock signal receiver so the time is always right.
But there are lots of good models out there that also do fun things from Casio. Thermometer. Altimeter. Cool stuff.
Also depends upon your budget. Lots of military guys like Suunto.
Baume & Mercier, if you are just slumming around the house.
I have a Timex and my husband and son have the G shock, my son is airborne and my husband trains horses. Both are very durable just make sure the band holds up. My Timex has been through heck and back and lasts years.
Highly recommended.
I have worn G Shocks for over 10 years. Reliable, no batteries and accurate.
If you are doing sports where you need timing (sailing, running, swimming....), they do not do that as well as Timex sport watches. They do it, just not as well.
But all other things considered, they are great sport watches.
I had a G-Shock back in the 80s and liked it pretty well. I thought it did a good job on timing functions.
I would only buy Freestyle USA watches. They have a lifetime guarantee and most importantly, you can send them in for fresh batteries when the time comes (about $15.00 including shipping) and they waterproof the watch at no extra charge. They also change the crystal if it’s badly scratched or cracked for about $10.00.
My wife, kids and I all have had Freestyle watches for over 15 years and never had a failure other than battery. Just google Freestyle watches. You can even find them on eBay and Freestyle will still change the batteries and waterproof for the same price.
And they are affordable so you don’t feel bad if one gets lost.
I have had a G Shock for over 15 years. Have beat the hell out of it and have had it over 100’ diving several times. The bands get brittle, but are cheap and easy to replace.
I have and like the Cascio G-Shock waveceptor watch that watch is solar powered and it receives the time signals from the National Bureau of Standards. So the time is always right.
That watch is dependable as hell.I’ve had it and its partner for 8 years with no trouble.
As you asked for either Timex or GShock (Casio) I won’t be a dork and mention others.
I love my G-Shock; I paid about $60 and there are many models. Timex’s used to be a lot cheaper but not anymore. I just like the look of the G better. My first G lasted about 15 yrs until my sweat totally rotted and rubber housing.
I am on my second G-Shock. The first one was still working fine but after 15 years of use in the engine room of 4 Coast Guard Cutters getting diesel oil and boiler chemicals on it plus all the UV from sun on deck the rubber around the watch just fell off. I have seen this on another guys watch too. But his worked fine too. They are a bit bulky but mine stays on my wrist pretty much anytime I am not dressing up. I like the light on the G-shock and the alarms and stop watch plus dual time features.
I have a cheap TIMEX digital watch that I bought about 10 years ago. That watch has been to hell and back. When I was working on the N-LOS Cannon Program I took it off to work on a high voltage cable and set it down on the gun tube. At the time our muzzle brake sent everything to the rear as opposed to the sides like traditional artillery pieces do. I finished up with the cable, buttoned everything up and we proceeded to fire again. I forgot to pick up my watch. At the end of the day I found my watch 30 feet behind the gun. The damn thing still works to this day!
Take a look at Casio Waveceptor watches. They sync up with the US Naval Observatory atomic clock and are about as accurate as they come. Mine is solar charged and every time I go to the US Naval Observatory web site my watch shows the exact same time to the second as their atomic clock.
Stainless G-shock with atomic clock receiver and solar charging. Almost unbreakable and it always has the right time.
Wtih out question, G shock is cooler than Timex.
The distinctive black no frills band is a mark of singular distinction. The G shock is rugged to a fault and considering the accuracy and capabilities a very good bargin.
I have had three and they last me about 8 or 9 years. The band is the problem. It fails. I give mine super rugged service so band wear is inevitible. The old watch part still works as if new. One old one is velcroed to a cabinet door in my shop for timing casting operations.
Shop on line. The problem with G shock is so many different models. I bought my current one on line for about half price. It is new in the box but a discontinued model.
If I still wore a tuxedo, I’d wear my G Shock with it
I was like ontap, I used those cheap watches from Walmart for a number of years.
Then, in the fall of 2004, I found a Timex Expedition in the river while trout fishing. It hadn't been in the water long and looked new, so I started using it.
The face is easy to read, has an indiglo light, water resistant to 50 meters, and the strap has inner leather and canvas outer, very rugged. I will say that the crystal is heavily scratched
The battery lasted until last June(2012)
My experience with watches thru life is that replacement batteries are subject to stopping and starting, which is the reason I started using those cheapy watches back when. When the battery dies, throw it away, and get another.
Checking prices last June at Walmart, the Timex Expedition was $30. The Cheapy was $9-10. And the new battery was $6.
Because I thought highly of the free Timex I decided to replace the battery. It has stopped probably 4 times over the year since replacement.
