There had been only eight recorded sightings of the white-throated needletail in the UK since 1846. So when one popped up again on British shores this week, twitchers were understandably excited.
A group of 40 enthusiasts dashed to the Hebrides to catch a glimpse of the brown, black and blue bird, which breeds in Asia and winters in Australasia.
But instead of being treated to a wildlife spectacle they were left with a horror show when it flew into a wind turbine and was killed.

It’s a shame what happened to the bird, but this whole thread is funny. :-)

Wind turbines have to be eliminated. Stopped. Dismantled. They are a sacrament for the enviro wackos.

That bird died happy, knowing that it had somehow helped to produce a million pounds worth of electricity.

Tsk tsk!
To: KarlInOhio
Listen up. It ain’t a rare bird, only a bird rarely seen in the UK, unlike altogether too many Indian species.

This story REALLY pissed me off. I’m not a tree hugger but don’t mess with my birds! Wind turbines have killed millions of birds, mostly raptors including Bald Eagles. Stop the wind turbines!
To: Sopater
Windmills are bird blenders and obviously kill birds including endangered species. Don’t windmills need environmental impact statements to be constructed? How many other projects have been delayed or stopped altogether because some obscure threatened species might be disturbed. If the same environmental standards were being applied to these massive wind farms I doubt they would have been built.

It is, but I got a case of the uncontrollable chuckles when I read it. Reminds me of Rush’s story about releasing the penguin or seal or something in Alaska and an orca came up and ate it in about 60 seconds.

I released a chicken into the wild in honor of this poor bird. A Spotted Owl ate the chicken. A wolf then ate the Spotted Owl. The wolf was then hit and killed by a car full of environmentalists on their way to a tofu barbecue. I call it THE CIRCLE OF STUPID.
