General Motors and Michigan, Starbucks and Washington, Walmart and Arkansas, Apple and California.
A new map sweeping the Internet entitled the Corporate States of America lists the brands, albeit subjectively, that the creator, Steve Lovelace feels best fits each of the 50 states of the union.
The criteria for each brand were that it is still based in the state of origin and that of course is still in business as of 2012.

Love my Dr. Pepper. I have to admit that I never drank it before I lived in TX, but I became hooked on it quickly. It is widely available in WI, WA, and CA, just to ease your mind, if traveling.
B of A started in LA in 1923 and later merged with SF’s Bank of Italy, which changed its name to Bank of America in the 1930’s There are a couple of older buildings in Southern California that still have Bank of Italy signs.
But, you won’t find a Whataburger up there!! ;^)
When I visit Texas, I always try to eat at least one meal at a Taco Cabana. I don't believe any exist west of the Rio Grande.
BOA was started in San Francisco. It originally was Bank of Italy and changed its name (I think) around WWII. Maybe it was earlier. My parents always banked with BOA, and my mother (99) still has accounts there.
Funny thing — there is NO BOA branch in Wisconsin. I manage my mother’s affairs now and cannot “run down to the bank” to straighten out little confusions. I have to do it by mail, or put the check in my account and do an on-line transfer for deposits.
I’ve never seen a Whataburger outside of Texas.
I know there are Whataburger’s in AZ and AL - and maybe FL?
Vermont is Ben and Jerry’s.

Sinclair gas still exists? Last I heard it changed its name to ARCO (some forty years ago) . . . then it disappeared.
“Also, New Mexico: I have never heard of Allsups.”
Allsups is a chain of convenience stores who also happen to have the best fried burrito you will ever taste. Addictive. They’re all over New Mexico and west Texas....every small town there has an Allsup’s.
“Ive never seen a Whataburger outside of Texas.”
They’re all over the South and Southwest from Georgia to Arizona.
From wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinclair_Oil_Corporation
Currently headquartered in Salt Lake City, Sinclair is the 38th-largest private company in the United States.[12] There are 2,607 Sinclair filling stations in 20 states in the Western and Midwestern United States. As of 2010, the corporation currently operates two refineries one in Casper, Wyoming, and one in Sinclair, Wyoming.
OK. I looked at that map in some detail.
I'd have to say the Brits got exactly 0/50 correct.
Epic Fail.
IMO.
Albertson’s for Idaho? Well...I guess it could be worse. Much worse, now that I think about it.
Although their pizza is pretty good, I don't think they even have a presence outside the state, hardly a "nationally" known brand.
seldom has such absolute nonsense been so well sold as a serious revelation of anything other than its creator’s imagination
You are correct. Bank of Italy pre-dates the 1906 SF Earthquake. He bought a controlling stake in a failing LA bank called “Bank of America” in the 1930s and changed the name of the enterprise soon thereafter.
A.P. Gianini (founder) was one of the visionaries behind the branch and inter-state banking model that we now take for granted. Largely grown through acquisitions, the corporate headquarters shifted to Charlotte NC in 1999 when they “merged” with NationsBank.
I thought BofA did have a presence in Wisconsin from it’s acquisition of LaSalle Bank about 5 years ago, though I could be wrong.
I can’t read Maryland - but I have a sinking feeling that it’s NOT Natty Boh...
